Ran across this post on the 80's list from a guy in Australia-

"Gday,
I wrote a week or 2 ago about my 1hz overheating up hill. From ringing
around radiator specialists, the likely cause is probably a blocked
radiator and not the clutch fan. The cruiser has only done 150k.
One bloke told me they block up with Aluminium Oxide (or something like
that) from a reaction with the engine. This is in the form of a fine
powder. His advice was to flush the cooling system with straight Vinegar
(cleaning grade). This apparently replaces the protective coat. Then
drain it and run the engine briefly. The same active ingredient may be in
thoses radiator flush products. I will also replace the thermostat just
to be sure. I will also get the radiator flushed.

Yeah its an old ass thread but its relevant because I'm finally able to start this thing again...

Ok I feel like a complete a******. Rich's wife sent me the original specs via a cut up manila folder and not only did I lose the plate I did two years ago but I lost the original specs. :(

Until today!!!!!!
It was in one of the boxes from my desk at work that I never opened after our move to Burbank. So now that I have it, I gave it to one of my engineers to make a solid works file for it so that I can get it CNC'd again. Gonna do it up in aluminum and anodize black. I need to get the mounting for the adapter plate that RICH used first. Here are the models (EDIT: never mind the location of the standoffs, they are actually supposed to be on the other side but since they are not part of the plate it doesn't matter):

let me know if you want to make 2 and what the second one would cost....and I thought I started a lot of projects at once.

I have a sickness. I have a June 2nd deadline for everything. The reason I start so many is because I get stalled on a project for a myriad of reasons. So I start the next until I can start the next. As far as making more, I haven't decided if I will just make the model file available so everyone can make their own or if I just make a bunch myself. I have access to almost 70 CNC machines now but those are running nearly 24 hrs. Hard to say.

The file/dimensions would be a great help too, either way let us know.

I do the same with projects, just started rehabing a 60 year old bandsaw in the middle of other ongoing 'stuff' for the cruiser and home.

June 2 will be here soon, work quick!

Good job Joey. That is an old thread... I would like to go this way.

Here are some pics of the coolant filter on my FJ-60. It is mounted behind the battery on the PS fender. It was installed about 15 years ago when I was noticing some corrosion particles in the coolant after several flushes. The filter is a Napa 4070 Coolant filter. The hoses are 5/16" fuel/emissions. I do not remember the manufacturer of the filter mount. Apologies on how dirty my 60 engine bay is....the 80 gets most of the love these days.

Anyone else done this since? Parts, photos, experiences?

I drained rad 10x, replaced most hoses, new coolant and Toyota cap. Bottom of cap now rusty-looking. Coolant looks clear but fins inside rad are rust-colored. Rad leaks near top.

About to put in new Ron Davis, concerned about gunking it up...

Thanks for any help!
