Big thanks to @ToyotaMatt for this. He posted a photo of this really neat choke knob that I’d never seen and my mind started working. Cutting to the chase we collaborated from afar on getting this to work and getting it installed in my 60.
I have a 1982 FJ60 so there is no bulb - no nothing - behind the orange lens on the lower left of the dash, where later 60s came with a choke or glow plug indicator. The early US 60s simply didn’t have an indicator I guess. The face of this knob is its own orange lens that I wired - with a lot of knowledge from Matt - to light up. Doing this involved three different choke cable assemblies, transplanting parts from one to another, a hard to find bulb that Matt sent me (LED of course), and plenty of tinkering on my part. But now I have an indicator for when my choke is pulled out.
I made a series of videos showing how I got this to work that I may upload to YouTube. Not that I have any desire to be a YT personality, but because there’s not really another way to make the video accessible.
