Supposed to be wheeling today with the kids. But, rain and ih8mud. Instead harassing them to give away toys before Christmas and decorating the tree. It's one of those days where it feels like the list of things to do is not achievable. Think I need a beer.

Opted for Champagne. It's more festive.

Any of you guys that have built or remodeled recently installed a PEX distribution manifold for the water in your homes?

Something like this

PEX Manifold.webp

I had them price doing this for ours and I am trying to decide if it is worth the added expense. For those who are scratching your heads, basically it is a distribution panel for your water in the house. Every fixture has a home-run from the manifold to the fixture, so the shower and toilet don't share a run with the kitchen sink and the washing machine. Everything comes from this panel. Generally everything will get a 1/2" feed directly to the fixture. No fittings in line. Still have shut-offs at the sinks and toilets, but can isolate at the source in order to work on showers or tubs without having to shut off the whole house.

Added cost in my case is going to be around $1,600. Doesn't sound like a lot relative to the whole, but do that a few times and it adds up quick, and this is one of a few things that we are considering currently as "adders". The other thing is the way our financing is set up, anything we spend over our approved loan amount is ours (not traditional bank financing).

Anyway, just looking for some thoughts.

Thanks,

We did it and I like it. less stuff to break or check if something goes wrong.

as you said, you can shut down one toilet, shower, etc and keep everything else running. I have had to do this once and it was nice as the kids can keep flushing toilet, laundry can keep going, etc. while I fixed leaky shower head.

it's WAY easier to install and I think the material will hold up better than pvc or metal over time. (last house had a metal fitting give way because the guy welding the joint got his mixture wrong and it started corroding as soon as he finished.......I got a swimming pool in my master as a reward.)

bottom line, $1600 is worth it in my eyes to have dedicated lines to each fixture with the latest technology. We have a tankless too and it's instant hot water.....love it.
