Aww man! I need that!

Red poured this cup of coffee at 8:30. Lost it. I just found it. Still sitting at 100 degrees 10 hours later. Unreal. Yeti awesome.

My gas grill is starting to act up and I'm thinking I will have to replace it soon. Instead of spending $300-400 on another gas grill I'm thinking about getting a green egg or something comparable. I've looked at primo (made in USA) and Kamado joe but it seems like the egg is they way to go.

So is it work the extra $600 to buy an egg vs another gas grill?

How long does it take to fire up and be ready?

How much charcoal does it use?

Is the stand worth buying or is it better to make a table?

What are the necessary accessories?

Komodo Joe is the best option if I was doing it over.

I talked Kaderabek's family into getting him one for Christmas. They found one delivered with stand for $1000

The Egg stand is flimsy. If you get an egg, get a table. If you get KJ the stand is stout.

Very little coal. Use good stuff. I use Egg coal and starter cubes.

15 min. Light cube in middle in about a liter size pile of coal. Close top open air at bottom and top wide. You are at 500*

You will not miss the gas. At all.

Best grill out there for $800.
The sear station is bad ass too when you want a perfect steak.
After putting in the smoke box, I also get all the smoke flavors from wood chips.
Been cooking on it for ~7yrs now and it's still rock solid grill.
I equate Weber to LandCruiser. Hell of a reliable product!

Eggs are nice too... just depends on your style and haven't personally used one yet.
I like to cook out 3-4 days a week so I want it easy on week nights.
Plus, I don't care for the charcoal taste. Experimented with all types when we were waitingwaiting on the NG hookup.

Forgot to mention NG, endless fuel on a weber!

Great an egg... it's like a stinger for your 40

Get the egg. It uses very little charcoal since you just cover it up after you're done so you can use 50% of the charcoal next time.
Had a weber gas grill before the egg. Egg is very versatile. You can smoke with it as well as cook pizza in it. Get the biggest one you can afford. Comes in real handy when you want to cook multiple full rack of ribs.

Which weber did you have?
I can smoke just as well.

Serious smoke needs a smoker of which neither in the subject are

Thanks for all of the comments.

Madison fireplace actually has the egg for $769. The cheapest I found the Kamado Joe online was $990, so with all of the stuff is probably a push. It also looks like most places have the KJ on back order.

Does everyone with a egg have the place setter/convector? It is sold separate for $79 and the salesperson says most people get it. I do like the idea of the Kamado Joe divide and conquer system.

Wish we had a Costco so I could have got that deal.
