I installed some amber squadron sports with the combo lens last week on my 10’ 570 and they are still too bright for street use. Thinking about swapping them out for the SAE squadrons.

Damn. Funny that a product is far too good for street use. I found that the passenger side plastic cover came off much easier when I used a small screwdriver to push the top two tabs straight down.

Yup, regular squadron sports are too powerful for street use. I only turn mine on when there's no other traffic around.

I also have a pair of squadrons on my Tacoma. They are extremely bright. I ended up wiring in a Skene motorcycle dimmer. It has a programmable module that you can connect to a 3 way toggle switch (I added to the dash). I programmed the switch to 10% , 50% and 100%. The 10% position is perfect as DRL. 50% is great for fog and full blast offroad.

@eatSleepWoof look what you made me do

I got the SAE versions.

Niiice! I wonder if the SAE option is just a different cover/diffuser... Hmm

I’m itching to do squadrons on my 2015 LC and this dimmer solution seems like it would make the regular squadrons much more palatable for on-road use vs going SAE model

@YellowDoor i assume you still control on/off with the stalk switch and the 3-way is just for the brightness level? Any hints how you tied the stalk switch in if so?

Good evening.
New Member, just signed and registered today to the portal.
Long time Toyota Tacoma user
Had a FJ60 but sold back in 2000 , so with family growing, just purchased a one owner 2014
I removed from the Tacoma a set of Squadron Pro amber fog lights.
I noticed your write-up is for the LX series, Do you think it will fit the 2014 200 Series Land cruiser with the mods you made?
If so, it will be my first mod for the wagon

thank you,
Pepe

If you find this out, I'm in line for a set. I don't know of a good way to confirm other than to test fit a set. I just removed my factory fogs ('13 LC) tonight to get the surrounds painted. I'm thinking now is a good time to test fit other solutions. By the way, the bumper skin is very easy to remove...

Here are a couple of photos of what we are working with.

it might be easier to mount lights to the aluminum crash bar?

this looks similar to the pocket on my 570. I bet fitment is close.

The could fit, but the surround may be off. My '16 used slots rather than screws on the inside. But the squadron has different fitment kits and easy to fab. I think there could be issues with led strike flicker with that motorcycle kit. Sometimes it takes a little surge of power to get the led going. But the workaround seems possible with the secondary user switch identified in the diagram in yellow. I wonder if the settings will provide enough juice at the lower values?

After seeing this thread and looking at the mounts I went ahead and ordered the DiodeDynamics Tacoma kit with the Yellow Sport DOT/Fog setup. Was $200 with free shipping. Hoping it is also a near perfect drop in solution and it appears their beam pattern is more of a low flat true fog style setup. Will report back once I receive them and get them installed, hopefully another drop in option for the LX crowd.

OP correct me if I’m wrong but could you have possibly mounted your fog lights upside down? I just got my set of BD lights and the tops of the lights have the BD logo and the wiring is towards the bottom. Also it looks like if you mount it in this orientation. That the bracket will might not need to be modified.

Certainly possible - at this point I don't remember enough about the install. Outside of potential mounting differences, it wouldn't make a difference to the output, though.

Just looked back at your images. You are running ‘pq’ instead of ‘bd’ lights.

Don't know what you mean by this. I have BD Squadron Sport lights.

I think he means that the "bd" is clearly upside down, making it "pq". Clever, but obtuse....

Sorry was trying to be humorous.

Thanks again @eatSleepWoof for the inspiration to do this. I just finished the install and it was very straight forward. I was able to access the fog lights by removing the lower splash guards and going in from beneath the truck. Just to confirm, the brackets do not need any modifications if the lights are installed right side up.
