New question. I did a compression check today 125 115 125 125 135 135 across the cylinders. The plugs where black as coal. It blows white smoke out the tailpipe, quite a bit of it. The brake master is leaking into the booster, could this be the cause of the smoke? I cleaned the plugs up and it stopped smoking for about 5 minutes. It's s 78 fj40

# 2 looks a little low they should all be with in 10%. white smoke is usually water "head gasket", doubt its brake fluid. check the oil color and radiator for bubbles, one way is to rubber band a bag over the fill neck and see if it inflates.

black plugs and white smoke mean oil to me getting into the firing chamber. I would think that your oil seals on valves may be bad.

Oh, snap..... just saw your new tag line..... and the BIG RED BUS now with more power!

So, you happy with the powerplant?

The radiator is pretty clean and the oil was jet black with no water in it. The oil had not been changed since the early 90's I stuck my finger in the drain if hole and there is a lot sludge in the bottom of the pan. I would bet the valve seals are bad.
