New LC 200 owner here. (2016 model only 2 weeks old.) We'll keep an eye on what you all do. We had a Land Rover LR4 the past 2 years and did a bit of wheeling. (Needed a stronger towing vehicle so switched to LC.) We'll only be interested in those runs that are "safe" for stock and generally have a cool destination. We're more about being able to see or explore awesome places than others who are into it for the challenge. We're not "Black Bear" people or even Red Cone. But we do all of the FunTreks green runs and possibly an occasional blue. Of course, this is also because we nearly always go alone so we are careful. We might be a bit more adventuresome with a group and good spotters.

Hi Dan and welcome. By chance were you on the Land Rover forum site?

Yes, Angelo. Good site for LR4 owners.

My name on there was Cyclenut. I was at a point considering an LR4 about the same time you were about to buy yours. I personally love the 2013 V8 but ended up sticking with LC's mostly for realiablity.

Plan on meeting Aug 28 at Stone Cup 442 High St, Lyons, CO 80540 at 8am for breakfast or 9am if you just want to do the trail. Anyone is welcome to join and plan on packing a lunch.

Sounds great! I'll be there and a buddy of mine with his 4Runner will be there as well.

Sounds good, I'm planning to be there! Unrelated, my family and I ran Red Cone this past weekend and it was absolutely BRUTAL. The trail to the top of Red Cone is extremely rocky and has a lot of huge--and unavoidable-- boulders and rock gardens. I scraped and dragged the Canyonero to the top, but it was not pretty. A post-trail evaluation of my truck shows major scrapes from my sliders to ARB skid plates, shock mounts, rear differential, rear trailing arms and bumpers. The view really was incredible, but the nature of the trail sort of overshadowed the view at the top. Driving back down we took Webster Pass. The road coming down Webster Pass was narrower and sketchier than anything in Ouray. In short, I do not recommend these trails in a 200. My trail book was pretty mis-leading. It said Red Cone is difficult because of the drop off from the top and steep hill down (both of which were no big deal, at all-I could have driven my minivan down that). The book also rated Webster Pass as intermediate - and while that is mostly accurate, the washed out--and seemingly hastily repaired--shelf road was maybe 2 inches wider than my truck. Just a heads up if anyone is thinking about taking their rig on this trail.

Holy sh%t this is what Trail Damage offers for advice on Red Cone - "If you slip off of the trail going down the Mountain you will most likely die... Go slowly, and if your vehicle starts to slide sideways use more gas -- it will straighten your vehicle out. You can't go wrong if you hurry, only if you slow down or stop."

Ok, Pole Hill is no stroll through open meadows, but I don't have to take out $5m term-life insurance policy.

I'll see everyone there around 8 for a cup of coffee.

@Ali FJ80 you interested in a trail run next Sunday the 28th?

That is one of my favorite trails. We do that every year. Maybe you need a good spotter there are some tricks to getting up the rocks. I hope you went to the right at the Y, much easier. and less boulders That spot on Webster is pretty tight. Nice to have mirrors that retract. I would have thought the cameras would have been useful there to get a real view on both sides

I hope to get time to run it this year. Work has been a killer. You can always go out the road to the right (easy route) to Montezuma and keystone, come back on 1-70 or go up Radical Hill (rocky with some inclines) to the same I-70 route

Have you done it in your 200? This was not my first rodeo, and it's a tough slog in a 200.

Not yet. Did it in my 100 about 8 times and would think the 200 would perform better. Wasn't implying it was a skill thing. My apologies if it came across that way. Really rocky trails like that use to bother me, but I learned on the Rubicon to power brake over them. If you didnt do it there (Rubicon), your teeth would rattle out. Before that I would just drive over the Boulders and bang a lot of things

The spot coming up to the meadow gets rocky and bumpy and then above the meadow there are some big boulders. Based on what Your saying I would guess some the boulders moved the trail eroded. I just mentioned left vs right at the Y above the meadow as the right is significantly harder and an FJ60 rolled there a few weeks ago. They got it upright and drove it home. The one time I went ride I decided to remmber to always go left there :D

Dang... Don't think I'll be doing that one.

I will be there. Just trying to decide which Landcruiser to drive

BTW I got a new roof rack, anyone local who wants my stock rack including cross bars let me know. It is free for local pickup (even at the rally) or $1000 shipped :D

that is pretty good. May have to rethink my offer

The Rising Sun Rally is Saturday. Is there still wheeling on Sunday?
