"Reservation" with Grandpa's Garage is confirmed for October 4th - 17th.

On another note, he informed me that he will be busy with EJS stuff starting on the 14th (doesn't affect our stay though). That tells me that we may need to take that time period, and possibly that whole second week, and account for heavy traffic both on and off the trails. My basic thought is that 80-90% of the rigs at EJS will be filling up the low to medium level trails. So, at least for the hardcore group, we may want to do most of our lower-level stuff earlier in the trip. Of course, not doing much 'serious' stuff early-on has been the plan anyway.

I'm not sure if I heard him wrong, or if he was using the term "Easter Jeep Safari" as a general term for "Jeep Event", but as I posted this initially, I immediately realized that Easter 2015 is already over. So I don't know what he was referring to. @woody, do you know of what event he might've been referring to and how much traffic it might bring with it?

That's great Steve. Hoping to have a mason jar for our host.

Yes, EJS was back in April so Jason presumably has it right referring to the Jeep Jamboree. I'd take that to mean he's organizing the event but that's just conjecture on my part.

red rock 4wheelers have a day trip to BFE planned for the 17,maybe there is something else but I didn't see it searching around.

At this point the schedule is starting to build itself a little. We're (me and Steve and whoever else) are meeting Jordan and his crowd on the 10th in GJ to do 21 Road. I assume this is the 10-11th, right? So, depending on what Jason, Andy, Roger and Henry want to do the week of Oct 4-9th we should reserve BFE for 13th-14th or something like that assuming we have rigs left to use.

Is there a list of the "Gotta Do" trails bouncing around in someones head right now? I'm certainly down for some of the more scenic and more mild trails too. Cliff Hanger and Golden Spike come to mind for instance. Care to share?

I can already tell this trip aint gonna be long enough... :steer::steer::steer::steer:

EDIT: From 1St post that Steve has updated:

Other trails for consideration: Montrose, Carbondale, Ouray, Billings Canyon, Bangs Canyon, Chinaman Gultch & Carnage Canyon (A little out of the way),
Preferred trails in Moab: Pritchett Canyon, Steelbender, Golden Spike, Metal Masher, Kane Creek, Hell's Revenge, Rusty Nail,
Other possible Moab trails: Behind The Rocks, Elephant Hill, Top of the World (photo op), Poison Spyder Mesa, Gold Bar Rim...
- Area BFE trails: Coyote Canyon
(Suggestions welcome, post 'em up)

EDITS: Removed Rangely as an option. Reason- too far out of the way.
Added Coyote Canyon in BFE as a possibility (with link)
Added hyperlinks for some other trails.

I plan to bring a case or two of Ranier beer. It's a pretty good cheap beer that I see at a lot of the wheeling events up here and I can only assume (hope) that it is not sold that far away.

Have to confirm with Andy, but I think the first day in GJ is actually Sunday the 11th, not Saturday. So my thought was to roll in Saturday night, camp, 21Rd Sunday, Billings Monday, back to Grandpa's Garage Monday night. There is also the option of camping in a few spots on the 21Rd trail depending on when Andy can be there... a little night wheeling on that trail could be exponentially epic.

I assume there is a list of the "Gotta Do" trails in someones head right now regardless of difficulty. I'm certainly down for some of the easier and scenic trails too, Cliff Hanger and Golden Spike come to mind for instance. Care to share?
Go back and look at post #1 for trail ideas; I have a lot listed there.

Not unless we can have a few days in which we hit more than one trail. :/

There may be a few already at Danny's when you arrive...3-4 from the area will warm the trails up :-)
"Warm up" - haha.
When we arrive doesn't seem to be an issue. It is the latter half of the second week that I'm worried about. Danny says there's an event starting on the 14th. Know anything about that?

Some must do's that come to mind are: Hells Revenge, this trail has some great side obstacles , hells gate, the escalator and the hot tubs for the hard core.
Poison spider is a good day trail , Golden Spike followed by Gold bar rim comes off PS. If you all want to camp out doing the full loop on Posion spider then do part of Golden Spike , camp and come out Gold Bar on day 2 is a good run.

Might mean busier trails, but no issues with your accomodations

I'll be leaving central Texas early Saturday morning the 10th, so if we plan 21rd for Sunday I could probably make that.

Exactly. It is that "busier trails" part that worries me. :/

I don't plan to get there Oct 12 but the 11th should work as well. GJ is only about 4-1/2 hours or so from me.

I've done some pretty good searching but still have not been able to find any info on the fees for Billings Canyon. The name "Billings" does not come from a person, rather from the fact that you pay to traverse each obstacle. More specifically, you pay a flat fee for the first six, then individually for the following thirteen. Can anyone else find a fee schedule?

Odd arrangement for a trail fee but OK. Saw your post a few hrs ago and starting digging unsuccessfully myself but while doing so ran across a ton of pics, looks like a hell of a trail.

That is strange, how do they enforce the fees or is it an honor system?

Yeah, now you see why I want to add it to the melee while in GJ. That and 21Rd will be worth the whole trip out west, I can almost guarantee it.

I think it is an honor system, but there are lots of wheelers in the local club that maintain the trail and the signage, so they probably know when anyone is using it. I assume there are pay boxes at each numbered obstacle since the latter thirteen are actually named "Pay 1, Pay 2, Pay 3, ~ Pay 13".

Addendum to prior post (instead of editing):
Got in touch with a guy in the area that has been on Billings in the last few years and he says it is fully public and no fees. We deduced that I have been taking the terminology too literal and the naming convention is more of a play on how much the trail might "take from you" vice what you "have to pay". A little embarrassing, but I'll admit my mistakes. Especially in this case - when I'm glad to be wrong.
