Anyone out there who can give me an time estimate for (professionals) installing a new clutch?

Thanks.

I had an elderly mechanic who specialised in Landcruiser7* series tell me 8 hours avg for the H55F. He said it can be done in 5 hours or it can take 10 hours if all the bolts are tight and rusted on.
His main business was refurbing 7* series for the cattle stations and minesites
Make sure the mechanic is including flywheel removal/machining if you are having it done (recommended).

I would also suggest a rear main seal and transmission input seal replacement.

My Toyota wizard in Belgium replaces any 7X clutch in under 3 hours but when I do one myself it is more like 4 to 6 hours.

There is no doubt that I am far from a professional ...
I swapped transmission/transfercase on my 70 a few weeks ago and it took me more like 14 hours between Saturday and Sunday to get all done. As part of the swap, I removed the clutch to check for loose flywheel attachment bolts, so I effectively could have done a clutch job (the clutch/pressure-plate/bearings and rear main seal have less 30k miles so I had confidence in them; inspecting them yielded complete confidence). The check of the clutch gave full confidence that my problems were limited to needing a transmission rebuild. The truck is back together and running like a champ again.

LDowney, what vehicle and engine was that on?

I have 13Bt and H55f on BJ74.

4to 6 hours most vehicles

Based on the FJ60, which is virtually the same so far as this job is concerned, it is a 5 hour job by the Chiltons labor guide.

Yeah I'm working out of town 6 and 7 days a week. Just happened to have a small town mechanic across the street from where I'm staying in sardis GA. I ordered the aisin parts and it cost me $650 but he said both drive shafts had to be dropped plus transmission and transfer case. I wish I could have done it myself. It seemed kind of high cost

He did not tell you wrong. Technically you can leave the tranny/transfer case in the jack under the rig, but it has to be completely disconnected and moved out of the way. $650 is not high, depending on labor rates in your area. Remember too, Chiltons hours are based on an assumption of a clean rig in condition close to how it rolled out of the factory. rusted bolts, excessive dirt/grime, non-stock modifications are just a few things that can legitimately lead to higher labor charges. Some places add in shop supply and cleaning charges and crap like that too. THAT is BS so far as I am concerned.

Thanks for the opinion on the price. I wasn't sure if it was reasonable or not. I try to do all the work myself and learn as I go but due to the circumstances I couldn't. Looks like a water pump is gonna be next along with the Weber carb getting rebuilt.
