I just changed my oil after a year and a half due to needing multiple repairs and not enough time to repair them. During that year and a half I smogged it once and it passed better than I see most other old rigs from the 90’s by a surprising margin. That being said I’ve just moved it around to work on it less than 30 feet and it never got a chance to thoroughly warm up. other than the smog It’s been just sitting for days/weeks at a time just moving in and out of the shed for repairs occasionally. I’ve been getting back into working on it lately and even though I changed to oil 1.5 years ago before I had to bench it for a spell, I decided to change the oil again just cause of so much sitting and short drives in and out of the shed, the oil was kinda cloudy looking wish I grabbed a photo but it wasn’t screaming head gasket vibes and it went into a oil drain along with 8-9 different cars oil / gear oil / atf so no sample was captured by the time I noticed the oil looked off. The coolant has been static for the 1.5 years of inactivity and doesn’t have an oily sheen or build up like I’ve seen in the past with head gasket failures. I’m thinking maybe just moisture build up from the short runs? I haven’t yet had time to do other tests to the vehicle yet. And it’s gonna be about 2 weeks till I can get back to working on it. Curious to get some thoughts on the moisture from short trip hypothesis for said fuqqie looking oil. I let it warm up about 15-20 mins before I drained the old ass oil. I’ve been wrenching for a long time and I’ve seen weird oil and sent it to black stone and it’s come back ok. But I’ve also never changed 7.6qts of 1.5 year old oil that had less than 30 miles on it either.

Sitting is not good, but FWIW I've had to park one or the other of my vehicles for many months at a time, as long as a year, and never had funky looking oil except for any drips (external) that looked milky from the condensation/dew in the evenings. Same with milky oil on the underside of the oil cap, just condensation. Only thing to do is drive it more, ie: highway driving with new oil/filter and recheck the oil daily, then if it looks odd again send that sample off to Blackstone.

Do you live (vehicle parked) close to the Ocean?? Dew on the vehicle at night or in the mornings? Frequent fog?

PCV valve/system functioning normally, hoses intact, valve not plugged?

Like trying to get a Black Stone report without sending them oil !

Anyone’s guess is just that. A guess.
