1988 FJ62 automatic transmission 4 sale

This transmission just came out of my truck and is in Irving, Texas. It comes with the flywheel and torque converter. It shifts great and was rebuilt ($1600) about 25,000 miles ago (reciepts available for buyer). Asking $400. Reason for sale is because I'm switching to a Vortec.

E-mail me at gswest1@comcast.net or call at 772-631-5119.

Anyone have or know of a transfer case for an F60, in the area? Just had Ike's look at my Fairey OD and it needs to come out, so I need a whole new transfer case. I have a late '85 F60.

Ike's is looking at pricing on a rebuilt H55 w/transfer case. However, unless the deal is great, I'll stick with the 4spd for now. I only do about 100 miles a month on the F60 (saving it for my old age...).

If I can't get anything locally, I'll probably go with a unit from cruserparts.net, unless you have any other ideas. I'll have Ike's rebuild the case if I go this way as the labor is only about $150 for the rebuild vs. the replace...

Thanks,

ab

Austin Bear,

$150 for labor, do they let you bring in the rebuild kit for the transfer case or do they make you buy it there? That's pretty cheap for a rebuild.

Ab,

I have one, but I'm not sure it that will work since it is from a 1981 to 1985 FJ60. Compete with 4 speed and still connected together.

Sorry, I meant $150 more for the rebuild vs just the swap...It was nearly $500 in labor just to swap them out and $600 something for the rebuild. They would let me bring my own stuff, as they would just source it from the same place. They had some parts quotes for me when we talked yesterday, but I was able to recite the prices and sources to him before he could finish, as you probably could as well - his sources were Man-a-Fre and Cruiser Parts.

Intestetingly, the labor for swapping the entire tranny and TC is the same as for just swaping the TC - about $500, which is why I went ahead with the new 5spd. I figured I'd do it some day and why pay the labor twice.

Thanks Charles, but, yes, mine is the later 85 version with the newer/different version of the TC.

BTW, thanks to all for your help/input. I'll look forward to meeting you sometime, probably around Austin. Most interested to see your rigs as mine is a pretty basic/stock unit - just tires, wheels, greasable shackles and that's about it (intil I get the 5sp in!) - though it is a fairly low mileage LC with 118k 'only' on it.
