Anyone ever come across a short (single) clanking noise right before coming to a stop?

It sounds like rolling over a metal plate laying on the street. It only happens sometimes. It’s higher pitched.

Sounds like it’s under the driver side and I can only hear it with the windows down.

It doesn’t appear to be the spare tire chain hitting the spare wheel.

Ideas?

Check all of your brake caliper bolts, soon.

Someone stole your spare tire and the winch chain plate is banging...

Oops guess you already checked that ;)

That’s what it sounds like - but it’s still there! 😉

I don’t believe the boot is torn but I’ll double check. I’ve only had the 200 for a few months so possibly it’s an old issue the inspection missed.

I have the exact same noise... same location. Happened twice this morning, once pulling out of the driveway and again coming to my first intersection after leaving the house. Drove it again the afternoon and its gone. Almost sounds like a "gong" sound, but higher pitched. Weirdest damn sound... you can almost feel it in the floor board too.

Something rolling around in the rocker panel?

Whatever you guys discover, if you do figure it out please post up so we can add to the knowledge base here.

I've yet to be successful getting a decent recording of the sound - still trying and chasing it down. It's incredibly inconsistent: very hard to replicate. Sometimes it clanks (softly) when coming to a stop, sometimes when slowing to a crawl, and sometimes over road humps. Giving it another shot today.

So following up on this old post for those searching/interested. Nothing concrete in terms of what was happening but the noise did go away as soon as I got new tires. 🤪

I’m now more perplexed. But bye bye noise.
