We need something similar to this for the Lexus GX460 platform. I'm finding it impossible to have a chrome delete on my 2021 GX460 in the PA / NJ areas.

Hi @Eric Sarjeant , are the under tail light trim fixed or snappable?
I’m not Eric, but if I understand your question, I may be able to help.

You need to remove the taillights and take out two screws, then the trim comes off. The ones on the hatch mounted lenses also require removal of the light, taking out a screw, and a plastic welded nub.

Thank you @CharlieS Very helpful piece of info. Good to know ahead of time.

What would you guys recommend to chrome delete the side trim and color match? Since it's a different material would it require removal and sanding or priming? Also, any idea if a dealership would do that or what type of vendor? @Eric Sarjeant I have an Onyx Blue LC too and having a hard time figuring out how to move forward. I'm in Colorado if that helps.

Very few body shops will do this, because they don’t want to do the rework if it chips. Painting chrome is more vulnerable, but on the side or rear where it’s not exposed to bugs/debris, you should be fine. I have yet to experience and issues. On the front, paint protection film is key, only catch on that is you need to let the paint cure first. In my case it doesn’t matter because I need two months on avg to do mods so I just time the paint work first and film and film last.

I live in a rural area, and found a small fabrication shop that was willing to paint my chrome parts.

Like Eric said, they weren’t eager to do it. Several shops flat out said no. I left my parts with them with the request to fit it in when they had time between other jobs: “no rush”.

I did all of the removal and reinstall of the chrome bits and they did the paint work. It wasn’t inexpensive. The paint materials weren’t costly, but there was a lot of labor, scuffing, cleaning, priming, and spraying a huge pile of small parts takes time.

They used cardboard boxes to make painting fixtures to hold the parts up so they could spray all visible sides, which I thought was clever.

thanks for the input. I think I only want to match the color of the side chrome trim, but will call around and see what my options are.
Let me know what you find out. I'm also in Colorado and interested in doing a chrome delete.

Not a LC but the GX460 is triple black. The build was inspired by an Eric Sarjeant black LC. Black GX, Fsport grill, TRD Pro wheels and vinyl wrap, black interior. It’s my daily driver that gets 20 mpg on KO2’s. I hate chrome on a 4x4…even a Lexus.

Lots of awesome looking 200s in this thread!

I’ve been debating what to do on my new to me blizzard pearl, so far the only thing I’m certain about is blacking out the chrome fog light surrounds. Could someone share how to remove these? Looking at part diagrams it looks like they just clip in, but are there any tips or tricks I should know before I start prying on the front?

Thanks!

To remove the fog light surrounds you need to take off the bumper. They are held on with one screw each, and some blue clips, if I recall correctly.
