if interested you might want to check and see if your favorite call sign might perhaps be still available out there. Obviously all the good ones are more likely to be taken, but the holders may also let them expire without renewing in which case you might be lucky to snatch a good one. Your initials may well still be there.
It's only like $12/10 yrs or so. Cheap and you can get something fun with your initials or a favorite word (??TLC anyone besides our local celebrity... Or K8MUD? :)). And if the call sign of your life is taken, the ULS will tell you when it may become available, then you pounce on it.

Did I get a good one? Ooooo yea.....! :) (don't ask...:D)

Vanitas Vanitatum and all that... :)

[same for web site names, those are going fast...]

Still debating the call sign licence plate tho!. $20 for the application IIRC. That one would be all yours as you have to send in a copy of your FCC license to get the plate here in CA.

didn't know about that, but that seems a bit much.

Unfortunately, looks like I8MUD may not be available in the US...

Hey guys,
I e-filed for my vanity call sign this morning. I figure that if you e-file this is all computerized, no? I should get a result back at least on the status of my application in a day or so. Checked back at the end of the business day and application listed as pending. Any idea on how long it takes to get your new call sign if you e-file? Thanks.

It took me exactly two weeks from the time I filed until the new call sign was issued.

Wow. Was that after e-filing or did you file the paper form and mail it in?

I filed online. And I fibbed. It was closer to three weeks.

Application received on 23 January 2008.
Authorization made on 12 February 2008.

That's 20 days.

So I guess that I can expect it as a Christmas gift then.

it took a couple of weeks for me to receive the new call sign too.

There may be a few days in there where you could well end up losing your first choice if somebody sent in the request first...

plenty of good stuff to find with initials of your club, phonetics, etc, (like W80sRULE? :D )

Actually I'm kind of proud of the call sign I was assigned, AD7NW.

Dan,
Yours is actually very easy to say, rolls off the tongue as the expression goes. I just find mine a chore to get out and as such asked for one that is a lot easier. Also as I live overseas I'm finding most non-english speaking folks are having trouble just in casual conversation on the street trying to write it down so that we can set up a small net. I suppose I could get used to it over enough time but I decided since I have the option for something easier and a little more catchy and memorable why not see if it is available.
