Pretty sure Derrick's cabin was unaffected as were the Horse Heaven and Laguna campgrounds. It seems the fire affected the Al Bahr Shrine camp which is very close (1/2 mile maybe?).
We had reservations up there this weekend too. Luckily we were able to reschedule for August. I thought for sure the CG would be closed the rest of the season.
I was just up that way in the Subaru on Friday. Found a little single lane back road up from Old Hwy 80 to Sunrise Hwy. Glad I got to enjoy it before the fire.
Best of luck with your cabin Derrick.
Thanks for everyone's concern and well wishes and prayers. There were moments when I thought for sure the cabin would be lost but miraculously on Monday evening the winds shifted back to the desert and the fires progress towards the cabin halted. We have received emails that all of the Laguna meadow cabins have been spared. Below is a pic of the burn area and I marked the location of the cabin with the red dot. Too close for comfort! The roads should be open tomorrow so I am going to try and get up there this weekend.
Here is another picture showing how close the fire came to the cabin. If you look at the black tip on the white antenna just to the right of the Helo Pad, that is where the cabin is located.
