Does anyone have any idea what this "Celcat" product is that is currently installed in our HDJ81 (1991, RHD) Land Cruiser (see photos in this post)? It was there when we purchased it, looks to be aftermarket, and probably done by the previous Japanese owner. The "Celcat" is a red, circular container that has a shiny metal top with a single hose that leaves from the top of the "Celcat" and joins the post-filter, pre-turbo air hose. The fact that there is a single hose makes me believe it is feeding something into the air intake, or vice versa (aka, not a two way street).

I found one other mention of this "Celcat" in this forum (see: Celcat ? ), but I'm not sure if this is the same thing, even though it shares the same brand name as the post I reference in this paragraph. I have a 1HDT engine in the HDJ81.

Please see the photos I took of this red, circular "Celcat" thingy. Should I leave it or remove it? What is it, and what does it do?

Got it, thanks y'all! I'll probably remove it then. The idea of having fine, pink powder (magic dust) getting sucked into the engine does not sound like a good thing.

Any idea what is normally plugged into this post-filter, pre-turbo port that the "Celcat" hose currently uses to connect to the air intake? If I remove the hose attached to the "Celcat" (and remove the Celcat as well), then what was the original purpose of that port connection? Do I need to cap it with something? Any suggestions?

For those that are interested as an update, I finally removed this "Celcat" device this past weekend from our HDJ81 5-speed, and plugged the port where it connected to the air intake (post air filter). So far, after a couple days of driving it without the Celcat, I haven't noticed any difference in performance or fuel mileage. Once I check our fuel mileage numbers after a couple weeks of driving around after removing the Celcat and if the fuel mileage has degraded even more (we're already getting somewhat poor fuel mileage), then I'll let you all know. My guess is that nothing will change :) Oh magic dust...

What kind of fuel economy are you getting?

Anywhere from 12 mpg to 17mpg (US Gallons) depending on speed and gear...was expecting in the 18 - 22 mpg range.
