There was a story on last weeks Americas Most wanted about a father who was killed because he worked for a company that bought and sold scrap metal including cats....They were quoting like $2000 a bucks for an once of platinum...so tweekers will be busy...I know we are seeing like 15-20 stolen a week in the city I work for...

Mine was stolen a couple of months ago. I had never heard of it before then. When I talked to the cops they said it was happening alot lately. They used a saw zaw and cut it off behind the o2 sensors and ripped the wires out. Cost me a couple of grand to get it replaced. Thankfully they caught the guys doing it.

It's almost funny, but the crack heads stole my Taurus exhaust out from under the car while I had it up on blocks while I was doing the tranny overhaul. I had left the exhaust (2 cats) under the car, thinking that would be a good, handy place to leave it.
Boy did I feel dumb when the time came to put the exhaust back in and it wasn't there!
It was a $700 mistake, including the 4 oxygen sensors.
The exhaust cost me more than the transmission rebuild!:bang:
It makes me REALLY mad they didn't even have to work to get it!

As promised, I want to post up some "after" pics. However this is before the skid plate I'd like to put on to further discourage anybody else from sawing out the new one.

Looking on the bright side, this was a good chance to tuck things up where they belong. The truck has a 3" body lift which allowed me to tuck in the converter and muffler a little tighter. I took it to a great little muffler shop in town and I didn't have to say much other than I wanted it up and out of the way.

He did a good job, re-did the whole thing from the cat back, re-used a still-decent muffler and put in a new tail pipe that now goes to the rear of the axle. The old one dumped right on top of the axle which I'm sure had an effect on my diff oil temperature.

The muffler shop is Sweeney's Muffler here in Torrance. I'd recommend his work, no affiliation. If you go, tell him you saw his work on 'Mud.

Here's a couple of pics to show his above-decent work. Dan.

[QUOTE=locknload; Here's the precaution I take. Works fairly well :D.

That's funny dude. ...reminds me of a friend who used "the club" as an anti-theft device for his car. His car was a real POS. Every time he would come out and his car was still there, he'd remove the club and say "...yep, worked again!" :hillbilly:

I'll try anything to prevent those bastiges from gettin another one! The only problem now is it looks so brand new! I need some instant rust or something.

Go to the junk yard and buy a crappy cat and hang it under your truck with mechanics wire...

Local pick-n-pull won't sell cats. They pull them before the car goes into the yard.

Weld it on. Better yet upgrade. Get a header, 2.25" pipe, a new cat, and a nice muffler. You will not look back. Weld on the cat, clamp the muffler.

Oh Yeah, the crack heads and tweakers have been stealing them
here in Ohio too. The weld thing won't work either.

A dealership even had video footage of 5 guys w/ saw-zalls.
They cleaned them out in about 7 mins. and got away free.
The video was too grainy to get the license plate of the van.

There's a bunch of different metals in cats for those guys to cash in on.

Solution: Bolt in the cat when you need to pass an e-check. A little
extra work, but can save you cash.

I wonder how I could rig it so if they try to cut it they get a face full of bear spray? Photograph them, then hit them with bear spray.
