Hey guys,

Can someone just confirm i can remove just these two casing bolts holding the alternator bracket, do the modifications to the bracket and retorque them without having to worry about the steel gasket. 2002 1HZ motor.

I'm about 95% sure i can and that all will be good, but would be nice to hear that from an expert. The motor was only rebuilt about 4000km ago.

I don't know how to confirm that, but I would do it. I've done it on other engines before without a problem, but haven't on my 1HZ.

Worse case scenario you have to buy a new steel gasket and replace the gasket if it ends up leaking. I keep a spare water pump gasket in the shop for exactly that reason.

Yeah I couldnt find anything in the manual about the sequence for those bolts. the worse case scenario of dismantling the entire kit and kaboodle on top of the pump housing on a newly rebuilt and torqued engine under warranty is what i really want to avoid!

I'd put a G clamp or similar on there if you're taking the bolts out, just in case.
good idea, though I don't know if i'll be able to get anything on there to hold as much force as the bolts, not to mention not being in the way for fitting the new larger alternator, i'll definitely give it a try though.

Well the official result of loosening the top bolt was coolant pissing out as soon as the torque was removed. Very disappointing. I torqued it back up and the leak stopped. Now going to leave it alone and hope for the best, and attempt modifying the bracket insitu, not exactly the result I had hoped for.
