Must have been some hj61 that came with dual direction, below pictures is the rubber and bracket underneath that holds the shifter

That’s definitely been swapped in from a later model truck. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the transmission mounts are made or modified from another vehicle to lower the angle.

IIRCC the 2 gear split case PTO's are from 40 series, the 60 and 70 series had a single gear
Because the shift lever is in the front these would both be 10/82+ PTOs. Was this installed with a H51/H42 or H55F? I know my 10/82+ 40 series PTO was pulled from 84 HJ47RV from Australia. It appears to be forward driveshaft only. The 8/80-9/82 PTO has the rear output may either complete single direction to dual direction or just switch output shafts if clearance turns out to be a issue in my early FJ45. Was suppose to be from a 40 series. The driveshaft only had a single pillow block bearing. Believe the 60 series used two. If that is the case should be clearance on the 1/79 4X series with a four speed?View attachment 2346356
I have not done this myself.

a very simple Video , yet Extremely Informative in my opinion :)..................

Thoughts anyone ? 🤔

a different take ............

non-usa version i guess ?

In the first video shows hand on the cable right in front of the winch with it still cabling in. To do this when alone I would recommend a way to have a kill switch wired into the coil for safety. With a steel cable would wear gloves. Frayed wire gets caught in the glove hand would be in the winch before you could slip it off.

The easy rule on the two direction PTO is move the shifter the direction you want the move the cruiser to move. Took the guy a second try to it right. At first thought he had a H41 by the way he moved the PTO lever and then the transmission. When it went the wrong way can tell he put a three speed in first gear.

Second video is of 11/84+ with a single direction PTO. Forward gear and pulling the lever back tells me it's a single direction. Push button lever started 10/82. Years after Toyota stopped importing a PTO winch to the US.

Believe the 10/82-11/84 60 series used a dual direction PTO. I just picked up a bracket for H55F that has the gate that allows the lever to move forward and backwards. Angle the gate is welded to bracket is wrong for a 40 series. Even thought for shift only shows on and on with a two direction PTO. Plan relocating the gate to match the 40 series bracket. The lever on the 60/70 series are shorter than the one on the 40 series but will still work. Maybe a little more awkward to shift but not as bad as a RHD and not something to do while driving.

Have that lever minus the label with directions. Actually have a few but the one from a 40 series is longer than the one I have from a HJ61 plus 70 series of unknown year which has the single direction label which all 70 series had.

Oh interesting... I didn’t know the levers with the built-in locking release had various lengths.

Is the trigger release rotated or is that just the point of view in the picture?

I have a 1965 FJ40 that has a PTO powered winch. The transfer case has an extra attached gear box mounted on the back that selects the direction the winch will run, power-in and power-off. The PTO has two gears but this added gear box allows both power-in and power-out without the transmission being in gear. Does anyone know where I can get parts for this unit?

On most Toyota transfer cases the location of this added gear box has a pressed metal cover and gasket that seals the end of the shaft and bearing.

Because the PTO gear is in the same location as the transfer case input gear it will cable in or out faster when in overdrive. The transmission needs to be in gear to work the PTO. Transfer case should be in neutral when operating the winch.

The PTO gear is just below the transfer input gear fitted on the same splines. This picture only shows spacers but I see the PTO gear in one of your pictures.

The OP pictures don't look like an OEM rear mount PTO.

I wonder where the winch is located that can take power off the tail of the transfer case?

That will not fit with a Fairey overdrive on the back. The Fairey overdrive for the one piece transfer case does not interfere with the side mounted PTO. If you what for looking for you can see the Fairey PTO gear on one of the pictures.
