Nice! That's the same stuff I use in my Sub.

BTW: I get Rotella T at Sam's Club and Delo at Costco.

There is synthetic (group III) and mineral Shell Rotella. They are respectively called:

Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 (Blue Bottle)
Rotella T 15w-40 (White bottle)

You want the blue bottle pictured below.

Not to take issue w/ anyone who prefers the synthetics and lighter vis minerals - but we run Castrol 20-50 in all vehicles, gas and diesels. 230K plus on a couple of those, one gas, one dsl. Location certainly plays into this - Deep South winters don't pose an issue w/ this oil. The newly aquired LC is getting a diet of the same w/ 3K max change intervals.

The Mobil 1 Truck & SUV is no longer available in 5W-40--it is now 5W-30.

There is a Mobil 1® Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40, I don't know if it is acceptable for gas engines.

Cary, any thoughts on the M1 truck/suv 5W30?

I have used M1 0w40 and the older M1 truck/suv 5w40 both worked well. The M1 0w40 is hard to find in my area and the M1 truck/suv 5W40 discontinued.

I have noticed lower oil pressure with the new M1 truck/suv 5W30. The OEM guage seem much more active during idle vs cruise. Is the new M1 truck/suv 5W30 really closer to a 5W20? So far I am not a fan of it. BTW, using a 1515 napa gold filter.

Thanks

Welcome to 1980, don't go letting the 25 years of lube development get in your way. Are you going to pull the cats on the 80 and run leaded gas also?

The new Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40 is the same as the T&SUV 5w-40 that was "discontinued." It was basically a relabeling. The 5w-30 is a different oil that appears to just be standard M1 5w-30 relabled.

The FAQ has been updated with the new oil.

Thanks for the clarification, I was thinking $8.99 was too cheap for syn

Amsoil 15w40 heavy duty diesel marine oil. Good stuff. Use it in everything.

Raventai,
After trying a few different weights and brands I completely agree with what you said about 40wt. It does seem to be the sweet spot for the 1FZ. Started out with Castrol 10-30 but after reading some tried Mobil1 syn. Have a very slow leak upfront I need to tackle one day so ended up going back dino to Kendall 10-40. Very happy with it.

Okay. The white bottle is what I have on the shelf at home. (Some) GM Diesel groups swear by Rotella T (white).

So Rotella sythetic. I also have the Delo 400 on the self. I guess I'll keep using the Rotella for the Sub and use the Delo for the Cruiser.

Just to note, given you are in San Diego, the 15w-40 is fine, just don't push it much past 6,000 miles per change.

I try to change it every 3k. Usually don't go too far past that. I put 10w-40 NAPA (Gold blend, I think) in last time. Haven't heard anyone mention NAPA oil:o.

Don't waste your time with 3k oil changes. The LC is very easy on oil. Even with the Napa oil I would run 5k intervals.

Cary,

I just picked up the M1 Truck and SUV blend and just noticed that it is the 30w. What would be the diffrence between this and the older M1 Truck and SUV? I was planning on running it in my LX with 110K with a Napa gold filter for 5K. Prior to that I have been getting oil changes every 3k running the toyota filter and what ever the blend is that they use at Toy Car Care (Local Toyota Shop). The only reason that I went with the M1 was based on the FAQ, but didn't realize the diffrent rate until now. I also looked at the Rotella, but at $16 a gallon plus an extra court at $5 the M1 sounded better. Your thoughts?

Thanks!

The 5w-30 is slightly lighter than what is optimal for your truck. Real world, we are splitting hairs, don't think twice about it and use one of the 40 weights at your next oil change.

Cary,

You suggest M. 0-40 for the Cruisers. What about a 4-Runner, small cars, etc? I reside in TN. Lows temps are usually in the 30's, highs in 90's. Of course there are several trips made each year in colder climates during the winter.
0 weight is great for startups, and 40 weight would be for the warmest conditions, correct? Wouldn't this really be the best weight oil for most cars, trucks, etc? In the last year I have gone to synethic in all the cars, trucks.

Thanks
Gman

Cary, I thought you were pretty high on the Delo 400, like one of the best Dinos to get and as good as synth if one changes at 5K, so I have been using this for a while now.
Are you still thinking that?
