I submitted a support ticket for the non-boot issue. I hear good feedback about their support, I’ll share what I learn here in the thread.

Something that started happening the past few days is that the unit tries to boot, but the screen looks glitched. I have to turn the car on/off a few times to get it to boot normally. Picture for reference:

^that^ is pretty common feature. Sometimes pressing FM or AM then back to the system will fix it.

Two of us in this thread have reported that the Grom/Vlite interface doesn’t boot up 100% of the time. I have to turn the car off/on (sometimes multiple times) to get it to boot.

My other issue (described a few posts up) seems to be related wireless CarPlay, so doesn’t sound applicable to your use case.

I updated Grom/Vlite firmwares via WiFi a few weeks ago and haven’t seen any improvement.

When it does work, which admittedly is most of the time, its a great interface for the old car. For the price I just expected it to function as advertised without isssue. Unsure if these types of issues are specific to our vehicles or more general to all Vlites.

I need to pull out the VLite in my 2005 LS430 to troubleshoot what I believe is an amp issue. The car is also getting put away for winter so won't be driven much for a while

@gromaudio - will this VLite work for my 2006 LX470? Looks like the same SKU on the website LEX4VT2. But wasn't sure if there was any difference in cables. Thanks

Yes, both vehicles use the same model of the VLite VT2 system, LEX4VT2. You can safely transfer the VLite VT2 to your Lexus LX470 2006.

2004 model year and the nav won’t read the nav dvd and throws a message on the screen.

Does the VL2 essentially eliminate the need for the factory nav by means of car play?

Seems like it but have not read anything yo that effect yet.
Yes, the VLine VL2 will work and provide CarPlay, even if your factory navigation has stopped working. For the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser, you need the LEX4 model of the VLine VL2 system, available here:

When I first got my Grom, I went with the VLITE2 because it just seemed simpler and that less could go wrong since it was purely for carplay. I'm wondering if that is still the case now. Are you still using the same components that you did 3-4 years ago? Or are you using more current parts and chips? Thanks!

Wondering if a 2025 Vlite or Vline would be more stable or faster than a 2022-2023.

Some of the frequently asked questions are:

1. What is the difference between GROM VLine VL2 and VLite VT2?

The GROM VLine VL2 offers wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a stand-alone Android interface that you can use to download almost any app from the Play Store to use in your car. The GROM VLite VT2 system is for wireless CarPlay and Android Auto only. 2. Can I install the system myself?

Yes, you can install the system if you have some technical ability. You will need to disassemble the portion of the dashboard to connect the system to the back of the stereo, and display and
Install the GPS antenna. On some vehicles, you will also need to install the aftermarket microphone (included). But most of our systems now support the factory microphone. We have plenty of install videos on our

Alternatively, the local car stereo shop in your area should be able to help you with the installation.

Wanted to give my experience with the VLITE Grom system in my 2002 Nav LC.

I am very happy overall with the system. Installation was very easy, maybe about a 1hr job total. The system functions very well, BT is pretty seamless, and having CarPlay and google maps on a 2002 touchscreen (with touchscreen that works!) is incredible.

My only complaint is that the car doesn't always 'recognize' the Grom system. This happens on about 20% of the time when I start the car. The fix is to turn off the car and turn it back on.

So it's official. I jumped in the January group buy on the Grom VLine VL2. I was on the the fence between the Naviks system and GROM... But from everything I have heard the GROM has really got the S#*t together over the years on this particular platform. Plus, everyone that has had experience with them stay the customer service is exceptional.

Im I'm still trying to decide weather or not to upgrade the back up camera. The idea of my 07' 100, is to keep it as close to OEM as possible. Ay mods to it and I make sure it is truly worth it (Short & Longterm). Ive seen a few cameras out there that very close/similar to the OEM back up camera. It would be nice to have the parking lines and much clearer visual back there. Anybody have recommendations...

I'm curious what month your 2007 Land Cruiser was built? I had nothing but problems with a Grom unit in my February 2007 vehicle, I truly hope your experience works out better.

Do you mean replacing the backup camera with a better one in the oem location with oem functionality, or adding a better quality camera with the VL2 video input?

I’d be interested in an oem replacement, but haven’t seen anything.

Thank you for your participation and GROM VLine group order and for your interest in GROM Audio products and technology!
Adding the backup camera if there is already an OEM camera installed is tricky, as it requires disconnection and removal of the OEM camera and wiring the aftermarket to the reverse signal.
However, you can easily add the front camera and manage it through VLine system. Here is an explainer video:

We have the switch here:

I had a Grom system in my 2018 GX460. It was so bad I ended up taking it out and just throwing it away after less than a year. It literally never worked right no matter how many updates etc.

Yep, I pulled mine out after trying two different units from the manufacturer. They refused to refund me, and I eventually gave it away with a warning of my experience, maybe the next guy had better luck.

I’m hoping for the best… I haven’t got a chance to install the unit yet due to it being so cold out… I don’t want to risk snapping anything when pulling apart the dash. Gonna wait for a weather to get to at least a balmy 28-30 before I install it.

Have you reached out to Grom to give you assistance? They seem pretty responsive to anything I have questioned.

My 07’ was built Aug. of 06’. Not sure if there were any bugs taken out of comp.,nav, etc.. Crossing my fingers.
