GT-40s and Porsche 917....

Here's a picture of me and my daughters with the guy from Gulf Racing (John Wyer Automotive Engineering) who led the engineering team that won LeMans twice with the small block GT-40s (1968 and 1969) and then "tamed" the 917 with Gulf-Porsche (and went on to 2 more LeMans wins with them).

His name is John Horsman - he lives in Tucson.

He was the engineering manager of the Gulf GT-40 Team, and the Gulf-Porsche teams. The reason they were such consistent winners was because of the team's discipline in testing, setting up, and preparing EACH car for EACH event. Nothing was ever left to chance.

If you don't believe me - you will have to read his book:

What a life to have led..... (and he's still going strong).

Townsend Typhoon Mk2. Hadn't heard of Frank's passing. I saw him a year or so ago and he didn't look to be doing to well. I worked for Frank for a couple years in the late '90's, genius engine builder, and he had a list of customer engines to be built that went for years in advance. He originated the idea of small cubic inch big-blocks in the Pro Stock ranks-he was quite an innovator and Tucson legend.

Man the brits of yore could flat-out design beautiful cars. When I think "Sports Car" it's something like this. Fantastic.

DEsigned in the 40's, called the "***** Special"

A classic Mercedes-Benz would look fantastic anywhere, but when it’s set against a backdrop of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Arizona Biltmore Hotel you get something extra special. Something like the Arizona Concours d’Elegance to be exact. Here are a few photos from the concours, including a class-winning 1957 300 SL Roadster.

Yep!

My Dad had an Austin Healy 3000 back when he was single and kept it until i was about 5 then sold it for the family truckster :frown:

To this day I can still remember the rich leather smell of that interior. He would often say he wished he kept that little car.
