Ac idle up diaphragm, not an emissions item at all. Connects to a VSV which uses manifold vacuum off the brake booster port by Cyl 5/6 (but only needs manifold vacuum, that is just where Toyota put it).

I think folks don't understand what emissions equipment means....technically the only emissions items are EGR, Evap and Air Injection. The diaphragms on your particular carb are driver aids, Choke Breaker, Opener and A/C idle up.

True, though the factory Emissions Control manual includes extra stuff like the High Altitude Compensation system and the fuel cut solenoid.

Thank you for your response. Seems like this is part of the AC system. But , I’ve looked for the connection where it would take off the brake booster pump port by cylinder 5/6. And “no joy”. I can’t find a VSV with an empty port as well. If you or anyone has pictures of the VSV and port, I would really appreciate it.

If your truck wasn’t equipped with AC and someone swapped carbs then that is why you can’t locate the remaining infrastructure. The idle up diaphragm was only for ac and if it wasn’t a factory ac truck, no vsv or port on booster, simple as that.

Anything could have happened in nearly 50 years. My rig was 10 years old when I got it in 1982. I knew the PO before me, however there were 6 other PO's before that.
Mine came with a Rochester carb and a delco dizzy. I'm fixing to do the carb for the first time except when I freed up the leather accelerator cup back in like 2005 or so. I worked on the dizzy about that same time range too. A few months ago I put in a chinanesium delco - seems to work fine.

Thanks, that would make a lot of sense. Perhaps the installed a/c with an old York compressor was dealer installed, rather than factory?

Tell us the date code on carb (number/letter/one or two digit number) found on leading edge of carb top above sight glass and the date of manufacture of truck (vin plate). Then we can quickly tell you if it is original to truck.

I’ve never seen dealers install yorks for a/c, but I can assume it is possible.

VIN Jt3fj40c7c3353272
2L 8

(Just sent the carburetor out for rebuild today)

Just for reference, I found a picture of the vacuum tube union , (88645A catalog/PN# 90404-51038), where the vacuum for the up idle comes out of the intake manifold and brake boost connection to VSV “magnet valve”, (88690 catalog/ PN# 88690-60010)
