I wanted to mention to @jamesurq and all (I'm sure you all probably know this) - - - Most of the campsites we went to that were National Park or State do not allow generators in certain sections, or put restrictions on usage.
  • All three of the NPS campgrounds on OBX allow generators except between 10PM and 6 AM except in certain areas (i.e. loop D at Ocracoke does not allow any).
  • All NC State Parks limit noise between 10 AM and 7 PM to include generators IF it bothers someone. If it does not, then you simply don't get caught.

I had never taken a generator camping until last week when we went to the OBX with my family. Their 30A service didn't work for their AC at a small campground near Cedar Island ferry. The Ocracoke campground didn't have electricity, so they thought they could run their generator all night . . . We got the RV cool until 10 PM and then cut the generator and it was hot by about 4 AM :)

Thread Revival:

Looking for a reasonably lightweight camping rug. 6x9 or bigger. Light, easy to clean, and stays put. I've had a few that were light and easy to clean, but they never stay down, constantly rolling up or moving underfoot. Usually because I'd buy the cheapest one I could find.

@Izzyandsue uses a section of astroturf. Brilliant solution IMHO.

Yeah - I had a roll up piece of astroturf, it never stayed put, was constantly curling up. Probably could have pegged it down, I suppose. But I wonder if there's a carpet that doesnt' come up.

put some brass 1/2" grommets in the corners and stake it.

Pretty sure someone you know in ONSC uses these (landscaping staples). They would be less a trip hazard than traditional tent stakes. Tie a loop of cord around them to help pull them out.

We'll all just ignore the fact that you had some prior search on human skin.

The ones I got are not stiff, they fold, and stay flat when unfolded. Home Depot specials under $10 each. Size is 6x9, and they beautify any campsite with the look of fresh cut grass. I had 6, gave most away already!

We need to find out what brand these tents are, I need one, freaking lion proof. While watching I was thinking, "this is a good commercial for Roof Top Tent, any of them", then I realized RTT is what the lions would call "upscale dining".
