I just bought this from @Oakleyguy and it arrived in about 4 days. Took me about 45 min to install with an few interruptions from the family. Really easy when you watch his detailed video. This is a great hack for this problem that shouldn’t happen. thanks again @Oakleyguy

Glad to help!

I just ordered one from @Oakleyguy for 2014 570. I dropped it off for new brakes the other day, and the mechanic was kind enough to check the cabin air filter. He states that it broken by a previous owner (I will confess that I have not checked the cabin air filter since I purchased the car 1.5 years ago). They wanted to charge $1300 to install a new blower unit. I found this thread and decided that I would try this fix first. Hopefully, this will work for me. Will keep you posted.

Just finished up the @Oakleyguy fix and it worked like a charm. His video on YouTube was very helpful though the trim pieces on the LX570 are a little different. When removing the knee pad, you also have to remove the trim along the center console. The most difficult part was figuring out where to attach the arm on the outside of the blowing unit. Pay close attention to where the old arm is attached before attaching the new one.

On a bad note - the mechanic had already ordered the new blower unit before I told him to stop working on it. He said it was non-refundable. So, I have a new unit still in the box if anyone would prefer to replace the entire blower. Will sell for much less than I paid!

Unless you authorized them to purchase the parts, I would push back on your mechanic.

Without authorization, they should kick rocks and eat the cost. Granted, this is in absence of knowing what terms and conditions may have been agreed to.

Unfortunately, the entire thing caught me off guard. I usually do the regular maintenance on the LX (oil, etc), but it was in for brakes so I asked them to change the oil too. They checked the cabin air filter and found the broken door. They called me to discuss, and I authorized them to do the work before I had a chance to dig in a little. I found your fix a couple of hours later, but it was too late. They had already ordered. I have used these guys for years. They are toyota specialist, and I trust them. It’s not a big deal (unless I can’t find a buyer for the blower).

I'm running into an issue with the HVAC on my 2014 LX which started immediately after having a Toyota dealer oil change. The HVAC system has a delayed startup and resets itself to 75 degrees most of the time when you restart the vehicle. The blend doors are also not acting correctly - driver side warm and passenger side cool when set at same temp. I did some self diagnostics to try to troubleshoot and reset the HVAC system following some guidance from elsewhere on the forum. Holding a couple of buttons on the infotainment system takes you to a menu to reset the HVAC codes similar to this video:

Unfortunately my system did not reset. It shows error code 41 and does not complete the reset process successfully.

I took it back to the dealer and they say they didn't do anything wrong, that the recirculate/fresh air cabin air filter cover still functions up and down, and that I need to pay them about 6 grand for parts and labor to replace Part Number 87050-60471 HVAC Unit Case, which retails for about 3167 but can be purchased online for around 2200. I've looked around on here and other forums and cannot find anyone that has had to replace this unit after having had someone monkey with the cabin air filter. The dealer says they attempted to reset the codes using the manual technique I attempted and also using their Techstream or whatever computer system they use.

I am trying to figure out what to do next. The HVAC system is clearly not working correctly and my wife and kids do not enjoy cold air blowing on them during the winter.

Anyone ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Did you yourself visually verify that the blend door (recirculate/fresh air cabin air filter cover) is still working correctly?

Dealer monkeys break that all the time.

I did, but I will give it another look to be sure nothing seems out of sorts.
Be sure you check carefully. Sometimes (like on mine), it works ok for a cycle or 2 and then quits working for a cycle or 2 as the mechanism slips. From what you’ve described so far, it seems possible the mechanism is damaged. Another way to reset is to disconnect the battery negative for a few minutes. Then see if you can get it functioning. There is a TSB for the HVAC servos but for later years.

This.

And if it’s broken I would -not- let the dealer fix it, the dash removal is too big a job with too many things that need to be done perfectly. I’d do the 3D printed fix sold by a member of this forum

Agreed. The shop monkeys broke the air dam second to last time I had it in the shop. I was leaving on a trip in a couple of days and used JB plastic weld to glue to shaft to the air dam. Has been working fine ever since. I will be purchasing the 3D replacement arm for a future fix.

I am not about to let them pull the dash apart to replace the module. I don't even want to think of all the problems that could cause.

The broken mount.

The broken off piece.

The sloppy repair. The shaft moves freely. Fortunately, it is a low-stress part. There is not much room to work in there to get it clean and to apply the glue. I was able to get glue around the shaft and on the air dam plus was able to mostly fill in the broken area.

The warning! Last time in the shop, I locked the glove box and kept the key and also told them NOT TO INSPECT.
