Buying a 460 - Need some help with assumptions (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the feedback, it's really helpful when given responses like this vs. needing all the gear the (albeit awesome) rock crawling modded gxs here have.

Rear cargo is a big one for me. But it really only matter if the last row of seats are being used. When they're not being used the the space in both the 100 and 150 are adequate.
Neither has any meaningful space when 3rd row being used. Maybe slight edge to the Cruiser due to a tailgate v door, but still...

I'm picking (at least to check out) between a nav and non-nav one. The only benefit to the NAV version for me is a larger screen for backup camera.

What do you think about higher mileage used? The main ones I'm looking at are 119k, 144k. But there are some 167k and 206k around here.
Personally I would be buying a replacement for mine south of 150k (more room until you get into high mileage, which I consider north of 200k for a land cruiser product). Regular maintenance documentation (or lack thereof), though, would be a big factor in my decision - and is as important as mileage

Did you just purchase the GX? Any ideas on pricing for me, say 2010 @ 148k
Clean retail per NADA in Birmingham AL is $21,825.00. NADA unfortunately has succumbed to pressure from the vehicle market to inflate the prices more than the actual value.

To find out the true value of vehicle go to your local bank and ask what the 100% LTV is on that vehicle. Banks are the very most accurate way to find the real value of vehicle. They do not follow the temporary inflations market. I'm willing to bet a bank will be closer to 15K LTV for that same vehicle.

I purchased ~15 months ago. Totally different market.
Agree 100%. The market in early 2020 was crazy high pricing and continued to climb throughout 2021. It's just now beginning to plummet.

Disagree. I bought a loaded ‘08 GX470 in immaculate condition for $11k in March 2020 and in August bought a ‘10 GX460 also in immaculate condition for $15k. The prices for GX’s really didn’t start blowing up until late January 2021.

I was not following the GX market back then. Good to know. I was speaking vehicles in general.

No worries. I looked about 15 GXs between March and August in 2020 and the prices were pretty low back at that time

Found a local car that Carfax says has no accidents but Autocheck has 1 reported: Car towed, no airbags.

What do I make of Carfax not having that and also is this something I should be considering?

For me, it all depends upon the type of accident. Almost anything with a bent frame, rear quarter panels, roof on any part of the body that cannot be replaced I would avoid.
If's just fenders, hood, doors, etc. replace along with airbags, why not? The paint on GX's is usually good enough and new enough to match perfectly that one would never be able to tell there was a different panel.
When I was t-boned a year or so ago, they had to replace my right rear door and just the plastic trim on the right front door, along with my rock sliders (which saved me from far more damage!).
With those repairs, I'd have no problem paying the same price as a similar vehicle with a clean Carfax or Autocheck if the one with the damage (like I had on my rig) looked good and had all the amenities and features I wanted.
Big deal if a door, fender or hood was replaced!

Does the Autocheck give any other information? My GX has 1 accident reported through Autocheck from the original owner and it said something like "accident reported, passenger front, no airbag deployment." From what I could tell, the original owner hit something on the passenger front corner with enough force to knock that corner of the bumper/fender liner loose but no structural damage and little to no paint repair. It was reattached and logged by a Lexus dealer since it was a lease.

The only extra info is this:
- No Air Bag Deployed
- RIGHT FRONT IMPACT COLLISION (POLICE REPORT)
ACCIDENT REPORTED(Report #:2017-2799)
VEHICLE WAS TOWED

Best case is that some of the panels were rubbing the wheels and that's why it had to be towed, worst case, big damage...

You could try and track down the police report to see if any witnesses gave statements.

Okay, I'll try to do that, good idea.

Also, there aren't any photos listed so I went by the dealership to look at it. It's in really rough shape. Rear and front bumper are not great and the interior is very bad. As if they left two pitbulls in there and they had a competition to see who could rip up more of the seats. Door handles in bad shape + scratches abound.

No rust underneath as far as I could tell (AL/FL car). Also, it has MTS.

I'll post some photos later...

Here are some photos.

Two things:
1. There are quite a few maintenance records.
2. If I do a PPI from a Land Cruiser specialist here and they find everything to be good, I'm more than happy to have the interior (etc.) fixed, if I can get a good deal. Let me know y'alls thoughts on this. I'm a deal hunter by nature, but again, need a reality check here. It HAS to be in my favor. For instance, if the interior smells too much of smoke, won't do it...
3. I'm looking at 2-3 others in my budget that are also acceptable to me.
