Well, here goes.

-I drove the tank to 1/4 with some Lucas fuel additive.
-I drove 15 minutes on the highway with overdrive off
-I added 1 gallon of E85
-I drove another 10 minutes on the highway to the emissions testing facility
-I show up 2 minutes after opening to this:

I'm sitting in line on park holding at 2500 RPMs. Will that do anything?

Ahhh what a nice morning in Golden.

Freeking Democrats!

:edit: oops, looks like I'm late to the party.

I have registered my trucks in Grand County and Park County in the past with no issues whatsoever. They are happy to take your money if you can provide an address. In the case of Grand County, I gave them the physical address of my rental ski condo (does not receive mail) and gave them my mailing address down in the Denver Metro area to send communication to. No eyebrows raised.

Personally, I like the convenience of registering at home, and I do have an environmental conscience (flamesuit), so I fixed my 80 up to pass--new cats.

I did run e-85 in my fj60 once to try to fool the emissions scanner. It did improve my test results, but then the truck died on the way home from testing (chunks of rubber dislodged from fuel lines and clogged up the carburetor jets) :hillbilly:

Luckily,,, he isn't driving a 60! The FZJ80 has no problem ingesting ethanol mix. That said, we have done some pretty high mixes on FJ40/60s to get them to pass, and never had a related problem.

Does CO have the 25-years and older rule? Here in TX we do and I'm thinking my 1994 has had it's last emission test. My 1997 has a few years yet.

I wish we had that rule. Here's the latest:

How Often Does My Vehicle Need an Inspection?
  • Vehicles seven (7) years and newer do not require inspection.
  • Vehicles eight (8) years and older, back to model year 1982, require an inspection every two years.
  • Vehicles model year 1981 and older are inspected every year.
  • An inspection is required when a vehicle that is seven (7) years or older changes ownership. Change of ownership requires a new passing emissions certificate supplied by the seller at the time of the sale. This requirement doesn’t apply to vehicles that have 365 days remaining on the seven (7) model year exemption.
  • Inspection required for registration renewal when indicated on your registration renewal card.
EMISSIONS EXEMPT
Some vehicles do not require an emissions test:
  • Vehicles that are less than eight model years old.
  • All-electric vehicles (hybrid-electric vehicles are inspected after 7 years).
  • Collector vehicles (model year 1975 and older).
  • Horseless carriages, street rods, farm vehicles, kit cars, and motorcycles.

Very good to know about your experience in the mountain counties. If they keep reducing allowable emissions thresholds, I may have to register in Grand County down the road.
