I live in north Italy , and after using the HZJ 78 , for a good 10 years in the north Africa region , I find myself that this beautiful region is no longer adeguate for this rig .
So the decision ha been taken since a few years to ship the 78 , down in the south part of Africa , and precisely in Namibia .
The truck is fine and ready , but space is never enough .....not even on a troopie .

At present the front bumper is as in the above photos .
But I wonder if I can use this space in a smarter way ...
this is how far I got in the new basket .
the final work will be in aluminium 3 mm .locked in place via some bolts .
What do you think ?

That looks like a great idea, the perfect place to store some recovery equipment.

Cheers

My thoughts exactly! Very curious to see how it turns out.

here are some up dates
had to do a new mock up , plastic is too flexible no good .

started cutting some 3 mm thick aluminium , rather easy to work with , but the quality I have chosen is very rigid .
not good for bending ,

this is the first of the two , semi finished .
it takes a awful amount of time working on the details .
still not finished but tomorrow I aim to finish this one and close the N.2 .
then I need to powder coat them , water seal them , and mount them .
all with in next week .
we'll see..........

small update .
both boxes are done , and welded .

Nice work! I was wondering how you were going to seal it from water... but given your location that might be non-issue.

Water is always an issue.
The small edge that you see around the aperture is made to host a rubber seal.
I have opted for a 2 x 10 mm seal .
Hope that it will be enough.corners and small cracks will be filled with silicon ,prior to install the seal .
The lid will be hold in place with pressure through 2 lockers .
Hope me well with the water tight seal ....
But some thing will always penetrate , so a tap on the bottom will be good to drain the eventual water leakage.

hi guys , sorry for the very later update , but big projects are at last moving .
so the baskets have been , finished , sanded , seals ,power coated ,and fit with rubber seals all around .
tested , WATER tight :).
I don't have many photos , as the car is already sailing !
very glad the say that these small baskets can hold a ton of small and medium size objects that are always in the way in the cargo area .
