datapoint: I ordered a front skid from them on 08Dec2021 and haven't received it yet. Not complaining, I knew there was a significant leadtime, but just an FYI in case you are looking for a quick shipment.
I ordered mine on Nov 30 and still waiting. Labor, supply, order volume, etc etc just means anything that isn't an off the shelf mass production is going to take way longer than it used to. I assume I will get the shipping notification on the morning I leave for my offroad trip next month just to spite me.
I ordered mine on the same day. Still waiting for shipping notification as well. Not in a hurry but anxious to get it.
Any of you get notification of shipment yet? They revised their lead time by 1 week less on building them but increased powder coat time by 2 weeks. I ordered mine as bare metal. Hoping to hear something in the next 3 to 4 weeks (if not sooner :) ). Also, did all of you only order the front or the full set? And did you get it pc'd? I ordered the full set. I decided with this build I was going to buy once, cry once.

I can't chime in on the budbuilt lead time issue, but after having my RCI skids out a half dozen times since late last year, I'm glad I went full length. Yes, the front half of the gas tank skid takes most of the abuse, but looking underneath, I'm glad I added the full length one. You can see some contact marks on the back half of the tank skid. Would these have touched the tank or caused any damage? Maybe not, hard to tell. The peace of mind is worth it though. This all depends on where you wheel, your lift, tire height, risk tolerance, etc, but if you're building it to wheel, then I'd go all in.

No notification yet. I also ordered mine bare metal.

It seems that the hits come mainly in 2 areas, the front of the engine skid plate, and in the "break-over" area at the back of the tranny/xfer and front of gas tank, if that helps your decision.

I agree. Coming from my 3x locked fully built 97LX450 I know how my wheeling style progresses. I won’t do any “hold my beer” stuff in this one (not yet anyway 😬) but with it fully armored I won’t have to worry if I get to a sketchy spot. 😬

I think I'm tracking with you Bang Bang. Front & rear lockers, re-geared, fully skided, armored, etc. but will not do any of the "hold my beer" stunts. Seen too many rigs and people get hurt. And this is my daily driver.
Built this for overlanding and adventure off roading, not rock crawling to see how difficult a rock garden I can go over, how deep a mud pit to go through how steep I can go before I front end over, but if by happenstance I have a momentary lapse of judgment (which my wife usually corrects for me ;)) I at least have the ability to self extract or help some else who's judgment was worst than mine.

Well, the GX is (unfortunately) not my daily driver at this point but I do have the ‘83 pick-up turned buggy to do the stupid s*** in. 😂😂 However, I am prone to the occasional lapse in judgement 😎

Not yet. Ordered my front skid on Dec 8, and ordered painted black.

I ordered full skids with powdercoat so I end up with the longest build time. So this is like buying once crying twice for the price and time.

Got the skids installed today. The set is impressive and will serve me well. However, there are NO install instructions. When I emailed them they sent me instructions for a 4Runner (yeah, i know they are gonna be the same) for just the front skid and the crossmember for supporting the t-case. I emailed them again and asked for any other instructions especially for the gas tank skid. No response. I’m a little perturbed to say the least. I’ve never installed a full set like this before so full instructions would have been helpful. But the lack of customer service is just unacceptable. Because I don’t have a lift and I was doing it by myself it took me about 6 hours. And I’m a little under the weather. This kicked my ass.

Would I buy them again, probably so. But now I have a better idea on how to make it all work together.

At least you got them, I’m still waiting on my front skid, 16 weeks and counting!

I emailed Bud a couple weeks ago to check up since I placed my order on Nov 30. He said they were waiting for my front skid to come back from powdercoating and everything else is ready to go. Your plate is probably in the same batch as mine.

I ordered a full set in 3/16" stainless on 1/10/22 and was told on 3/21 that they've been at the powder coater since 2/9 and 2/15 and they should be back "soon".

Still nothing though so if you're ordering from them I'd ignore their powder coating "estimate" of 3-6 weeks as it's going to take way longer than that from what I'm seeing.

I'm honestly contemplating selling them when they show up as I've sort of lost interest in them after 3 1/2 months.

Not going to bash, but having gone through the whole comparison between manufacturer's the bud built might offer better oil access, but RCI oil access is decent but definitely lacking on that part. However pricing, shipping speed, and steel thickness is by and far superior to bud built for GX460. I would never go aluminum for anyone actually crawling, high speed aluminum skids make more sense and provide the needed protection. RCI is 50% thicker steel if ordering online, there is no "rock armor" option for the 460 as far as I can tell. I ordered them 2/10 and received by 2/13 over halfway across the country. For anyone not willing to wait and can compromise the oil filter access being slightly smaller but need more protection...I'm very satisfied with the build quality of the RCI, not to mention overall for everything powdercoated is nearly $550 cheaper with shipping. Just food for thought since everything is getting ridiculously expensive these days.

Whatever you do don’t go ARB unless all you plan on doing are dirt roads.. currently building out my own after seeing how these held up.. but I guess I’m not surprised at 1/8” wall thickness, these aren’t designed for rock crawling. My plan is so go steel up front (3/16) and aluminum for the rear and gas tank. (1/4”) also debating on building some LCA skids.
Side note: should have sold the arb set whilst they were nice still, anyone looking for a used set with a bashed in front plate..

Factory center jack point is maintained on the Budbuilt. I'm not aware of another vendor who currently does this.

I don't know what the up-charge would be with Budbuilt to go with the 3/16 like RCI which are 33% thicker. No doubt Budbuilt is not the cheapest option.

My Budbuilt tank skid is 3/16....perhaps the package they have out there now is 1/8 as well. I purchased in years back it wasn't listed on their website.

Got my BB installed and they are heavy. If I'm damaging these to the point of what these ARB's look like then I'm in the wrong rig. If you're straight up rock bouncing in the 460 then yeah, I can see the BB's not holding up. But going through some rock here and there, dropping the rig off some small ledges, etc the BB will hold up just fine. I'll be putting them to the test next weekend at Jambo so we shall see.

The skid plates shipped today so I'm going to give some thought to as what I plan on doing over the weekend.

Chances are I'll keep and install them since they're here now.

Bud did seem genuinely concerned that they'd been at powder coating since 2/9 when I called him yesterday. I think he checked into it to find out what was going on.

He said the powder coater lost a couple of employees in February that they haven't been able to replace yet so that's part of the problem.

If you are planning on ordering though I'd plan at least 6 weeks for powder coating and more like 8 weeks just to prepare yourself for the wait.
