How do you keep that front wind deflector from scratching your roof?

How do you keep that front wind deflector from scratching your roof?

It comes with rubber trim for the side rails and the wind deflector standard, NOT as an option. It can be adjusted just proud of the roof as well. I did not have the rubber on in these pics. Good eye and question!

Any updates on the 60 rack??

First off, wow that is one sweet 60! Perhaps someday my Louise will look that nice.

Second, and to your question, I made a couple of more changes to the rack (made it 1/2" taller) and I think I am just about there. The test rack I put on works well but I have been playing with the bend on the side rail to split the difference on the 60 drip rail line. The roof tapers in at the back of the truck just a bit and it makes the rack tight in the back. Fortunately the side rail will give enough in that direction that once latched down, it is rock solid. I have side rails made and the latch system finalized as that changed with the taller side. Also, I have a new front panel proto being cut hopefully today as that changed too. If I can get all of the pieces today, I hope to post some pictures of where it is at. I am ordering more cross bars today for a first run of racks as I only have 2 sets in stock, so I should have all needed parts in hand within a week or close to it. That and final pricing info from suppliers. Both my cross bar supplier and my laser cutter that makes the side rails and the small stainless double washers and logos have informed me that prices are going up because of material price jumps, which are happening everywhere.

Thanks on the kind words of my lil red head. She didn't come to me that way. It's a process, right?!

Good to hear this...a few other questions...
1) I second @John Staton wondering on the total height?? I have garage issues to sometimes...It's not a deal breaker at all, but just curious.
2) Will there be Front and rear Light tabs?
3)Will there be an option for mesh floor? (Just curious.)
3) Do you have a target fab date?
4) Cost..(Aprox)

I like the continuous Gutter connection...no pressure points for gutter damage.
I think this may be the best fit for me and my needs...
Looking forward to it.

Not sure how I missed your questions, but even though it is way late for my answers, they are needed.

#1- the rack is just about 2" taller than the highest point on the roof

#2- there is a light bar option for a single row 40" light bar in the front. In the rear ot is a matter of fixing the lights to the grooves using T-nuts in the slots (I include a bag of 8 T-nuts and assorted bolts to get the creative juices flowing on DIY stuff).

#3- I am working on a mesh floor kit for the rack, in concept it will have a rubber cushion to protect surfaces, and potentially be a quick release setup- working on that one.

#4 fab date might be a couple of weeks because I am waiting on the wider cross bars the 60 requires. But SOON

#5- cost is not for sure but likeley be a bit more than the 80 rack because of increased size, weight, and one extra bar. Should not exceed $1000 though.

And some teaser pictures.

Are these the final sizes for the cross bars or are they going to be wider ? Looks great

Yes, the cross bars are 53" wide on the 60 series rack.

That’s my plan. Trying to move a couple things on the calendar....... including a new head gasket in the old girl.

Cool. Should be fun.

The rack looks great. But I have one question regarding the position of the clamps... can they be moved along the side rails? Or is their position fixed?

Aesthetically I keep wishing they were evenly spaced out. Other than that one quibble, this is one of the best looking racks out there, I think. I love the T-Nuts.

The latches are fixed. I have struggled with what you are talking about regarding position of the latches. They are lined up to follow the lines of the windows and pillars. The design of the side rail does the same. The problem there is the front latch cant really go all the way to the front so it splits the front window. It would be possible to do more latches an spread them out but more latches would be overkill and they are pretty expensive to make so it also becomes a price point issue.

I appreciate the feedback and will consider all design change ideas. I'd like to continue to make it better for sure.

It's not a deal breaker as it is, for me anyway. I'm an Art Director for a living, so I tend to think with my design brain all the time.

Since the front clamp splits the window, I don't feel like it would bother me at all if they were evenly spaced between the current front, and current back position. A lot of the other racks I like are 4 gutter clamp designs and I've never even really thought about their position as they've all be equally spaced which makes sense in a more traditional rack. Your design has the advantage of letting you put them anywhere... but then you have SO many options. :-)
