Did you get the cone washers out? They can be a pain. Brass punch on the end of the studs will work. Then a dead blow will drift the rest off. Cruiserpilot is right..... be rather gentle. Get an OEM gasket if possible for reassembly.
Didn't realize those were cone washers, got them out and it came right off. Ill have to get some gaskets, this locker install is starting to add up $$$$

Do you have the proper snap ring plyers?
i have the proper snap ring plyers, made it a lot easier using those

Got the caliper and the housing off today

Geez, I feel stupid, TOTALLY forgot about the cone washers. I've been flying every day, 3 time zones, 3 states, 4 hotels in a week and
I'm kind of dopey....I use a small 90 deg pick to pull mine out when they 'stick'. I'm glad you got it apart.

Jeez i would be too, that's a ton of travelling. I just used a pair of vice grips to pull them out when they got stuck.

Ever typed 4x4 with caps lock on? :bang:
4X4=16, put two zeroes after the 16 and you get $1600. Roughly what the locker plus seals, bearings, shims and everything else costed. Gunna be worth it when its all done and i can take it back out on the trails though :steer:

Or $X$...

Update on the locker install, axle is completely torn apart and the 3rd member is out. My 17 year old son is the one doing the locker install. Free labor

I hate to suggest more cost, but since you have that knuckle all taken apart....Are you going to replace the upper
and lower knuckle bearings? It would be the perfect time to do it.

Nice to see things moving along!

I'm with Jon; you're far enough into it you may as well do a full swivel hub and bearing job while you're at it. You're not going to want to have to take all that apart again any time soon. I think there are some deals on right now for a real good price on full kits that include all the seals, wheel bearings, kingpin bearings, felts etc.

Can't wait to see it when its done!

It seems a PO has redone all the bearings, i will just leave it for now. When i do my upgraded knuckles ill do the bearings.
Nothing free about a 17 year old son... :D
But you're stuck with those bills anyways... Do you think he'd do mine next.
Son was reading this, he said not without getting paid

How much? $, trade?

Front axle... :D

Would take me about a month to do it (only have an hour and a half a day to work on stuff)

That's my problem too...

Well its been a while since i updated this, kept forgetting to take pictures but its all back together now. Now its time to repair the two cracks in my frame and find a signal flasher because mine blew up  but at least the rims are shiny

Managed to go out wheeling twice with the new locker. 2nd time blew up a birflield, snapped the axle shaft in two different places, and exploded a hub. and my brand new marlin crawler seals have failed and allowed plenty of water to get into my axles. then i noticed my new marlin crawler inner axles seals were complete junk and somehow disappeared mixing plenty of moly grease with gear oil

Oh dear. That's a lot of carnage. Lockers can really tax the front end components. Look into some Dirty 30's or Longfields and rebuild all over again.

Yeah was looking into some RCV's, unfortunately out of the price range right now. Going to re assemble with stock shafts again and hopefully by the time they break again ill have enough $$ for upgrades
