So in a hunt for a 40, I found a piggy. I looked at it last night and it didn't want to start. Went back today and got it running. It has a weber carb in it and was not adjusted correctly. Impulse buy? You betcha! But I was looking for somthing that I can restore, and this fits the bill well. It's in great shape, same owner for 30 years and only 2 POs before that. I have a lot to learn since this is a first for me, but I can't wait to get started.

It's a 1973. Bought in Atlanta and has been here the whole time. Rust is there, but minimal considering what I have seen in my limited research. Original engine rebuilt in 81. Some other additions over the years, but I need to dig in and see what's what and sort it all out. It's at my brother's house until I can go pick it up tomorrow or Monday.

There have been a couple of threads on this one I found. It was originally listed in january and Roosterdo looked at it. Here she is, the beautiful sow...

Good stuff:

Thanks! I found it last night and all the folks from Upstate pointed me over to this forum to read the threads that had been posted about it in the past. Y'all were a lot of help. I got it for a good price and much less than originally listed. They were ready to get this think out of their driveway.

Way to go Heather! Can't wait to see it at a club meeting! We need more swine in the group. The undercarriage looks really good & that sparklin transfer case, you can tell the drivetrain was well maintained. About those rusted areas, typical problematic areas, but there *may be more hiding where that pretty paint is covering. Are you going to restore it back to stock or make it trail ready? Have fun, I'm in the middle of my buildup.......

Nice find! The symptoms of the disease only get worse from here..

Congrats!

It will be there Tuesday! They guy I bought it from did a really good job with maintenence. You can tell that he spent a lot of time over the years working on this truck. It has some quirky things about it...like some weird coil over doodads on top of the leaf springs. Makes it like riding on a boat.

But I am aware of the hidden potentials of rust. He says that he "fixed" the rust spots a number of times over the years, and he had it painted at maaco. I figure for now the plan is stop the rust, patch the rust, learn how to weld, then replace the rusty pieces. I think the hard part there is the learn how to weld part!

Nice looking pig. Get rid of the Weber and go back to an Aisin carb - rebuilt by Jim C of course.

Welcome to the sty.

:pig: :pig: :pig:

Thanks y'all. I plan on going back to an Aisin, but the PO did some rerouting of things attached to the engine. The oil filter is in the wrong place and the vaccum hose is attached in a weird place. The weber is sitting on 3 aluminum spacers that have to go too.

I'll definately need help with where to get all these pieces and parts. I am making a list and plan on posting it when I get it done...or at least done for now.

Thanks for all the kind words!

Nice find. Can't wait to see it progress. I have an x-tra aisan carb from a '78 if you need one. Good luck, and start watering and fertilizing the $ tree.

Yeah, the money tree needs to get a lot bigger, I can tell already. I do need the carb. But I don't know squat about what will and won't work/fit. Will the 78 work in a 73? I am going to have to do some major reverse engineering to get it back on again since it's all sorts of weird in there now.

If y'all think it will work, how much do you want for it?

If it's a Weber 32/36, Ebay it! Now, if it's a 38, get the right adaptor, tune it CORRECTLY & you'll love it! I've run the stock Aisin & currently run Weber 38's on both my 40 & 55. Never stalled on me except once when I flopped the 40.

I have a Weber 32/36 on it now. There is a Weber 38 in the back that has been on the truck but isn't now. I also have a Rochester? He apparently had issues deciding on a carb. Gave me all 3 with the truck.
