Did you drop an egg into the radiator like they did on Mythbusters?
He blew a 10" crack in his top tank , puking most of its contents

thats a @Bodean rule on the last day...
Heck we don't wheel, we just camp and eat and travel between camps and eating . as usual on these trips the EAF crew were just going back to camp and eat , emphasis on the eating and any disruption of that is a very big deal

^ yes. Awesome. That might be the most accurate description of the EAF lifestyle ever put into words.

I will have to say I had a great day along with the kids. But my hopes were a lot bigger than I could execute.

I am going to make a point in my life that these kids know that they can enjoy the greatest thing that we have that is the outdoors.

Many thanks to the hosipitaly and kindness bestowed upon my A Team! They had a great time.

I got my ass whipped sat but it was very enjoyable and learned a lot of what too do and what not too do.

Meal planning is #1 in EAF terms. Close second to whiskey/beer. After that is it a crap shoot.

Once Andy arrived with Jerry and Anna the search for a new radiator via Text message via Satellite ensued between Dave and his wife.

We ran through a bunch of scenarios that all ended up with Jerry and Anna going home with Dave and dealing with finding a radiator for a 20 year old car on a Sunday morning from where they had better Internet.

The fog was settling in on the river and Dinner was starting to warm up.

I had my wife Vickie check all the local parts houses via my Inreach unit and the closest radiator was in Ok city and the fastest one could be to Russellville or Clarksville was Tuesday, so with that said we made the decision for Jerry and Anna to go home with me , they decided to get a room in Russellville and I would loan them a car for a few days as needed. Jerry would continue the search on line since it was around 11:00 pm and I would check with friends. I knew Bossman and my buddy Jordan. ( jordan7118) were at the ramble and the cell service sucks there...

So calls were attempted, texts sent. Jordan called me back around 1:00 am said Bossman was with him and didn't have one, nor did anyone else he knew. That's when he made the outstanding offer to take his crawler 80 home and pull the radiator for Jerry to use with the only required thing asked is for him to get it back at Jerrys schedule after he got home to Hattiesburg. So a call to jerry at 1:30 am which for some reason rang about 25 times and a very tired Jerry finally picked up . Plans were made to pick him up at 7:30 am and we would haul to Hot Springs to meet up with Jordan. Jerry had found a radiator in Memphis but that's over a 400 mile round trip so we stayed with Jordan's offer.

after picking up the radiator we hauled back the 80 miles to Russellville to pick up my wife to provide Anna with some now much needed female companionship for the 70 mile trip to Jerrys rig and while we worked on it. Then it started to rain.

And rain and rain. Well this was gonna suck. I was thinking how glad I was that The EAF crew didn't camp up the creek and rather on high ground. Jerry and I hung a tarp between our rigs to provides semi dry place to work , Jerry is a heck of a mechanic with good tools so my main purpose in this was to keep the tarp dumped in the torrential 2 hour downpour that of course ended as soon as Jerry buttoned up the 80 , we bailed off the mountain to find downstream a few miles the creek we were camped on was a raging flood ,rising almost 6 feet in a couple hours .

Jerry's troubles still aren't over, I get a text that he is in southern Ar. And is overheating again, and thinks it may be a head gasket, and is going to do the smart thing and rent a u haul truck and trailer to get home. I have to say Jerry and his wife Anna were a pleasure to be around and kept a great attitude through their first and very memorable EAF trip , he did confirm it was a blown head gasket but no big deal as he could get it fixed with no problem

I wanna wrap up my too long posting with a apology to Nolen for taking up so much space on his thread and by saying this is a awesome group of guys that i am very proud to call friends. And they are truely EAF. And special thanks to my buddy Jordan

When Lou figured out that he could not go on the trip he secretly laughed at all the weather issues but when it came down to meal planning he stepped back into his role as Chef and provided smoked brisket and candied bacon for the birthday dinner.

By the time we had this all hammered out we had candied bacon and brisket on the Skottle

The next morning we woke up dry and remarkably bug free.

PMc was riding low and snoring soundly when Andy started his coffee ritual.

We cooked up some cinnamon rolls on the Skottle and hit the road. We were about an hour from reliable cell service so we
Wanted to see what had transpired in the search for a radiator.

First contact was made at 10
Hundred hours with the Scout and Sniper

At this point I look at the shared locations that Apple phone users have and see they are in HotSprings. As was told before they met up with Jordan and pulled a used radiator out of his truck to get off the trail.

When they left the night before Jerry and Anna were going to borrow Dave's spare car and deal with the 80. He's a great wrench and she's a trooper and would hand him tools. As bad as
It sucks to leave him, it just didn't make sense for us to wait around for this to happen.

IMG_7998.webp

But that's not Dave's way. He stick with Jerry through the whole day keeping us posted.

Andy had stopped at The Yellow Jacket and reported seeing Rob there. After what had happened to Jerry I was having serious reservations about leaving two mechanically perfect Toyotas at home to satisfy my urge to overland a relic.

Patrick reported that the Pig in Dumas AR does not have TShirts

And then my balls are shriveled up as this happens.

But hey, the old girl is getting some damn good mileage. I had dumped the last of my 4 quarts of oil in when the final text came in from Dave that they were good to go.

Dave is a hero and Jerry is a determined Marine bad ass.

Andy is home. Mulch Watch resumes. And I'm still on the road when he reports that he has gone #allAndy and unpacked and was going in to shave his balls and look for ticks

Meanwhile Jerry updates us.
