Hawksbill Crag. I knew so little about it that I thought it was a waterfall.

Dave didn't seem near as worried about this hike as the last hike so I assumed it was much closer so once again I grabbed my camera. No water and the Pig and headed out.

This time Bomar piled in with both kids. Jerry and Anna were carrying one and him the other and we quickly got out in front

The farther I walked the more I realized I should know more before I take off.

That said, the weather held and we had a great walk to a beautiful spot.

[QUOTEThat looks like the same area we went with Greg. What will it take to get Bessie in shape to go on one of those Deb we are rock crawlers. We will never be #OAF enough to hang with those guys..."
. That's crazy talk , I'm old and 40 lbs overweight and in need of 2 knee replacements, I've hiked all my life and refuse to give it up, just go a little slower and enjoy the Scenery , you can't miss out on stuff like this. I have a 60 mile solo canoe trip next week, that I try to do a variation of every year.its not hiking but still getting out there[/QUOTE]

Just to be clear, the Bessie CT speaks of is an ass raped 80 (Grogan coined term...not mine).

Yea JT I was mainly talking about not doing things for any reason, everything can be overcome, I'll edit this because looking back it did sound kinda dumb. I guess it would be more appropriate to say if ya wanna run back roads then do what ya need to do to accomplish that. I gave up rock crawling years ago after dumping a ton of money into it over a lot of years and really decieded to give it up and do what I've alwYs done, that is to explore back roads, in younger years it was in a 67 Toyota stout pick up then I bought a 76 fj40 new, had several similar rigs then got the rock crawling bug, tore up several rigs , could almost pay my mortgage with money spent and said screw it , it's no longer fun and I sold everything, bought another cruiser and never looked back. It's just doing what you want to do. Besides do you guys in Ms. have more rocks or cool back roads??? Sorry for the space taken in this great post, just wanted to clairify ....... carry on

When we got off the hike PMc and I were way out front so we were antsy to start the trek back to Camp. It was 6 pm and we were hoping to shave some of the time off the 90 minutes it took us to get there.

We took off leaving Bomar contemplating heading home or camping with two whipped kids

Due to the fact that we were going a record pace, we got not pictures of the 45 minute return trip until we made it back to the river.

When we first crossed the area drone recognizance showed an extra large gravel bar a short bit upstream so PMc and I decided to head up there and check it out. The others, we assumed were about 30 minutes back

Turns out we would have all died up there had we camped there and the rains that hit Sunday afternoon had rolled in that night.

Nolen and PMC hauled , and we were hanging with Bomar, and the "A-Team "( his kids) for a bit. I had about decieded to air off the tournament I had committed to as I would much rather hang with you guys, it's not often that I get to. But as Andy and I were hiking out from the Craig I decieded that if I told folks I was going to help with the tournament on Sunday than that's what I needed to do regardless of what I wanted to do, so since we were on the good gravel with pavement 6 miles away and me having 100 miles of 2 lane to cover, I was going to bail and camp at the shoot. So i hung out a bit and said our good byes to Andy , Bomar , Jerry and Anna and followed Bomar out.. I was a mile down the road where there is little to no cell service and got a call from Jerry, I heard about 2 words of his call, one of them was "broke" damn

So I tried texting him with similar results, and had no idea where he was, thinking maybe he had started down the hill towards camp with Nolen and PMC. I kept moving and trying to find a place with enough signal to get a text through. Found out that Andy was still with them but still didn't know their location or the condition of Jerry's 80. Knowing Andy would take care of things, I hit pavement and circled around to come into camp the back way to see the nature of the break and Jerry and Anna. Of course we had zero signal at camp and the radios were not reaching out. Lots of discussion between me, Nolen and PMC resulted in I would stay at camp because I was set that Andy would do the smart thing and get Jerry and Anna to camp with or without the 80 one way or the other and it might be the way I came in. Nolen and Patrick would go up the hill the way they came into camp and hoped that Andy and Co. would do the same. While we were discussing things Andy rolled up from the highway route and to our relief had Jerry and Anny in his Hundy

And just like that Jerry broke the cardinal rule of #eaf.......he broke something that was going to interfere with dinner.

Patrick, Andy and I huddled up out of earshot to discuss it.

We needed to figure what the damage was and how to handle it , of course without messing up dinner

Please tell me he broke the 80, and not something like forgot to plug the fridge in and spoilt a whole beef tenderloin or ruined a platter of sushi.

So nolen and i have been farting around driving one super old truck and one basically stock truck through places they probably shouldn't go (through a creek bed and rock bars) under the auspices of campsite exploring (but really for poser shots of his 60):

After realizing we were about to break something and that our desired campsite was a total death trap, we climb out of the creekbed and start to set up camp.

At this point we hear a truck approaching from the opposite bank of the creek from where our group should be coming from. We realize that its dave; he crosses the river without any followers on his 6, meets us at the campsite and tells he took a short cut to find us and share the news:

Andy was with jerry at the top of the hill in stage 1 of the rescue mission. Jerry's radiator blew out. Total puke job. Not drivable. 10 miles from pavement in the middle of nowhere.

I must admit, these #EAF trip reports are great reading, right up until you get left hanging for 4.5 hours waiting to see how hot the fire that completely consumed a 6,000 lb 80 series burned....

Did you drop an egg into the radiator like they did on Mythbusters?
