I have the power coated frame back and will be sending the tub to the body shop next week. I need opinions on which body mount kit and the best vendor to purchase from. This 1970 FJ 40 will be my DD.
I was very UNhappy with the fit, quality and support of the CCOT kit. I had to heavily modify (ie. cut the steel pieces, cut out plastic overflow from in the threads, separate pieces) in order to fit my stock 74FJ40 body to my stock 74FJ40 frame (which came together from the factory).
I'm with 16inDec. I'm looking for a good body mount kit as well. I'm glad you brought up how ratty CCOT's kit was. I probably would've gone with them and been pissed. I have a 1970 that i'm looking for new body mounts for...appreciate anyone's input.... -hobbes
Mine was for a 55, but I have been pleased with it. It came from www.4crawler.com . They have great tech support and shipped pretty quickly. The body mount kits are made by someone else, but are good quality. They only sell the polyurethane mounts. I went through them because I wanted a 1" body lift for the fj55, and no one seemed willing to offer something of the sorts. They will also custom drill stuff if you want larger hardware.
I used the poly body mount kit from Specter. Everything fit great and I have been really happy with them. I did them about 3 years ago and cant see any wear. The 40 is mostly a trail truck, not my daily driver, so it only sees maybe 2500 miles a year. The kit was reasonably priced, but like I said, it was 3 years ago. Hope this helps, Hodag
I used an Energy Suspension kit for my 45. Most Offroad suppliers can get it and it's cheap, less than $100.00. It's not like the OEM mount but it works. They are square, not round.
i also went with the energy suspension they make 2 kits a firm and a soft, i went the soft and it helped to soften the ride and bumps and is supose to flex better, i dont no if thats true but i am very happy with it and it is also sae thread not metric so replacement bolts are easy to find if you want a body lift or ever have to replace a bolt and i did not have to clean any threads. liquid offroad has a pretty good price but look around lots of places sell them. GOOD LUCK!! OH and soak all your factory bolts with a good penatrating oil (WD-40 or what have you), i did for a week every day and still had 2 break off and some just spin and getting them out sucks after that. i used my dremel tool and cut off wheels to get them out a little peice at a time..
