hey fellas

I have a '85 bj70 here in australia..with some 360 000km on it...ex fire-ies

its come time to re do a oil leak on the front end..I assume its front main (see photos, dark patches higher up are from coolant)

however im not 100% sure that is coming from there (if someone could confirm)

whether i need to somehow remove the seal collar/silver cylinder thing to access the seal or

whether the seal accessible how it currently is ( if someone could confirm that is the seal visable in the photo)

any help or info would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Clean that up a bit, and all shall be revealed.
Make certain to torque the nut to specs once you button her up.

@Squash is onto it.. everything that needs to come off to do the front main seal is already off.

Appearance wise, its absolutely the front main seal causing the issue.. use a genuine one. Whilst its all apart, consider preemptively doing the water pump, thermostat and bypass hose if they've never been done in your ownership.

yeah rito... so you reckon I should be able to attack the seal how it currently is?
if so what would be the best way l, if I dont have puller or a pick...and just a big socket and bita love to push new seal back in?

well there you go...the new seal doesnt arrive till tomorrow arvo..im fairly rural and cant order parts quickly..but is there anything else I can or should do or check while all this sht is off?

Good stuff.. you worked it out.

Whilst you've got such great access, meticulous clean up and consider water pump, thermostat, and thermostat bypass hose
