When wheeling i carry spare birfields,axles,u-joints etc.etc. but never thought of carrying a spare u-bolt for a spring.Has anybody heard of this happening before?

That's pretty much exactly what I said...

My guess is whoever put on the OME lift used the original ubolts and didn't cut them. Every-time the bottoms hit on a rock it increased the chance of breaking them.... probably the best fix for this is a ubolt flip kit?

Where are the pics of the other vehicle. This looks like a diversion tactic. It is always easier to blame some else for problems, also this is why you go over a vehicle before you take it out and especially when it is new to you.

I don't have any... I think cam has them...

Here's a couple that i have. All in all, a pretty quick fix, i think it took us more time getting out of the pub to the trail just to make sure we were well hydrated for the trip in to "broke-back creek"! :lol:I wasn't around for the initial breakdown, but Keith was a pretty good sport about having to camp out with his truck, and i was pleased to see that Toshi had all his clothes on when we pulled up.:flipoff2:

Cam's compressor was defenitely nice to have, pounded a few more drinks and we were on our way. These guys picked a nice spot to camp, nice little creek, sunshine, tarped area next to the truck, pretty slick really!

lol thankfully Steve seems to fit and sleep quite well in cargo area in the back. For some strange he kept on trying to take his clothes off telling me they were wet. Thankfully he hadn't gotten a hold of a enough lucky to feel warm enough to actually follow through with his idea :p

As for the U-bolts on my axle snapping, I think there were more than one factor at play... The u-bolts were 1 inch to long from the get go and looked like they may have already been re-used and damaged before I got the truck. Really I didn't think it was ever going to be much of an issue... Secondly I took a bad line and ended up hitting one really good rock pushing allready weakened parts to the brink of destruction. Over all it was a good trip even including the on the fly camping. Seriously couldnt have chosen a nicer spot and we only got rained on for about an hour!

Time I chimed in on this one boys...

First off, let me apologize for disturbing many of you early Sunday morning. Especially in the case of Ken whom I actually woke up on his day off. (Sorry bro).

Yes I drove into a hole.
Yes I had to be pulled out (thanks Andrew)
And to top it all off I broke my truck (birf)

Now the rest of the story.....

So, the truck is out of the hole and the camera flashes have died off and the taunting and laughter have calmed to a dull roar. Time to head for home.

So out came the tools, Steve at this point jumped under my truck and said "pass me some tools". "Huh?" I replied. "It’s your birthday man and you’ve spent weeks working on my truck". Followed up by "hurry up this is cold f'ing water!” Yes, he was in fact lying down in a small dribble of running snow melt water where I had conveniently parked. Oops. That’s a good buddy right there!

So off we went, Andrews 80 packed with the "broken 70 series" crew and myself and my "broken 60 crew". We dropped the 70 guys off at their camp site for the night and thought about getting out in 2WD. Turns out it worked quite well we escaped the bush with no problem...... kinda.

At the end of the day I let my good buddy Aaron drive as it was noted (by him) that I hadn’t been drinking enough on my BD. Naturally, not wanting to offend a good friend I obliged.

We, as a group came up with a plan. Aaron would take the controls and get us out of the bush (2WD locked) His girlfriend Ashley would take the controls when we got to real roads and Gina would be the camera girl. I'd drink.

Things went badly when Aaron decided to pilot us up an off-camber sand hill with a group of Alders at the bottom. Too slow, 2WD and the fact that a loaded 60 weighs more than Jenny Craig's entire entourage got us into trouble. The alders took out the taillight and the marker light. The Land Cruiser badge in the QP looks like it belongs on a "Woody Roadmaster" (but it didn’t break!). And we had no way of getting out of this. Lucky for us Andrew turned around and saved the day. (Again)

After I beat Aaron, (threw a crescent wrench at him earlier as well) we continued on.....to the pub.

Pics....

Stay tuned.....

Heading into Sooke we get a visit from one of Sannich's finest. Unbenounced to us we had used a parking lot to turn around in just up the road from a speed trap. Piggy thinks we drunk ass-s. Piggy overlooked the broken tail light and numerous other potential motor vehicle infractions as he gazed into Ashley's big blue eyes. I think she even managed to get an apology from Robocop.

Off to the pub. Things get rather hazy here on in. There was nice tasting beer and some wretched Tequila following. I remember paying a visit to the lawnmower shed behind the pub at one point. Tequila tasted better coming than it does going down. More drinking.... Blackout.

I awake at 8 ish the next morning feeling like a hot bag of smashed a**. Ungrunt, snort, cough and scratch. Did all that really happen?

I hobble to the garage and manage to find my old spring under U bolts. Nice. Spirits are rising.

To the phone next.....

Dan gets the good guy award for this one. After working in Alberta for far too long and far too hard he gets a call from me saying "got a bit of a problem here, can you help?" Dan's been home for less than 15hrs most of which he spent sleeping. Dan and I did discuss a brief 4 min. window of his coherent activity before he passed out but that’s another thing all together.

Dan says he's been the guy in the truck before and that he knew how team Brokeback was feeling (minus the Brokeback part) and he would leave ASAP. Dan: remind me to give your fiancé a big "thank you" next time I'm over.

A friend from the fire dept. came along with me as I thought I'd be 2WD'n the bush alone (till Dan said he'd go) and just like that we were off, just one quick stop, the pub.

I buy the guys lunch and we purchase some Sasquach P*ss and head for the trails. Dan of course goes the "Hells Gate" route but I wanted something that tasted like water and goes down the fastest. Dave (fire buddy) says he'll cover the on road driving and I decide to see what my liver could take, again.

Here is a shot of Petie..... the trail dog!

So, after purchasing some more pops and with bellies full, Dave, Dan and I head for the bush. The hangover is 5 alarm at this point and the first beers go down rough. We, as a group stopped once or twice where there was a view to BS and so Dan and Dave can observe me attempting to grab a handful of dog hair as I attack this hangover with us own medicine!

We head up Anderson and get lost because I try a shortcut. No problem though as we knew Steve and Keith would still be there no matter how late we were. I manage to miss the sink hole that swallowed me earlier and we all stop to remark how much its shape resembles that of the front of a 60. Weird.

We soon find the boys all fine and dandy. No condoms to be found but there was a rather crusty looking sock outside the back of the 70..... I didn't dare touch it. I placed the proverbial white hard hat on and started pointing with one hand as the other held the beverage can. Dan jumped under the truck and I passed tools, Keith cut the old bolts off. Steve made fun of me and drank the beer we brought. Steve also whittled a land cruiser from a bit if wood and had time during the night to litter the place with little Inook-shook looking rock stacks. But I digress....

The 1/2 inch impact was handy indeed and it whaled the bolts on fast, final torque with the breaker bar. Dan added in the necessary "click click" sounds so we all knew they were tightened to factory spec.

After that is was smooth sailing all the way home with the occasional break for beverages and the easy listening provided by Keith's Brockett99 collection.

Keith was a good sport and bought us all dinner and beer.

So that’s the story, I hope you enjoyed it.

Nicely done. To quote Willie the Santa, " That's an awesome fxxxin' story kid."

that second to last picture of yours is pretty much avatar worthy I'd say.

Half sorry I missed the weekend, but on the other, pretty good example of why my truck hasn't done much of anything...looooots of old sketchy bolts holding that s***box together that I haven't had time to go through yet.

Man, with all that redneckin' are you sure it isn't time to trade the Cruisers in for Jeeps? Then you could break more stuff and drink even more

I've got some extra stuff that I didn't start out with... prolly from the 70 series crew. A blue and black jacket and 1 (small) Mechanix work glove. Stephen?
