Look good Dre... I got talking to an old high school freind today (Erik Dansie), turns out you bought some Cummins stuff from him... good egg!

hate to say it but proffits was saying the 4" + is mandatory for the 80s because I don't think you have the luxury of firewall chopping? PM greasecruiser, he has some pics of the 4BT in his 80 and how it all filled in, there are other pics out there too...

I think you're right, by looking at some pictures from some of proffit's convertions there seems to be alot of space behind the engine to push it back further but now I see that the exhaust gets in the way. :crybaby:

we'll have to see.

not too much to report.. Spent some time down there today, got the other side done which took a little longer, was a little more complicated because it was a tighter area.. Also had to snake around the starter.. Turned out pretty killer though... So the front is done.. On to the rear cross member possibly tomorrow if I am lucky...

Also interesting is for some reason drivers side is a little more compressed, about 1/4" more. . 3.5" of motor mount on the drivers, 3.75" on the passenger side. This may change slightly as I add more crap (accessories, etc) to the motor, but probably not much. So the motor actually rotated itself back to vertical/level believe it or not. . It was only about 3 degress off before, leaning to passenger side... The only conflict there is the starter is a little close but I am wondering how big a deal or not... So I can pull of the drivers side lower tab (both are only tacked on, to check for compression of the motor mounts).. Or I might leave as is, I dunno. It does work this way. I couldn't believe how much the front end compressed with weight over the axle.. Lost a lot of height.. But got to check how well my placement worked. But there is now only about 4-5" before the axle hits so, I will need that lift afterall.. :)

Burly, awesome clearances.

How about a 80 width 9.5" front axle for your next project? electric locker capability and 3.70 gears, and no need for 35s, unless you really want them. :)

Honestly it sort of crossed my mind. But again the 80 series axle is so cool IMO, could never abandon it.. But, if I did have some other setup, could probably have placed the engine a lot differently, so I would have had some more clearance up front. But that said, pretty psyched with how its all turned out so far...

I'm kind of curious about how you are going to handle the wiring?

I know you have done a swap like this before so you probably already know what to do, But I was curious because I am starting a 6bt into a pig swap and its the one part I'm not sure of.

Awesome build, keep it coming.

lookin good dre!!!

the first one you did worked, but it really looks like your spending time doing an extra special job on this one.:bounce:

actually the wiring part of it isn't too bad.. It would be literally an almost instant solution, just take the 12V+ that goes to the coil in a pig and put that to the fuel on/off on the Cummins and that is all it takes.. The starter wiring is the same, and the alternator (switching to GM style alt) is probably the most difficult part, because teh Toys especially have the older external regulators etc. Not sure if it is hard or easy bypassing all this stuff from the Toy alternator or not..

For me, I am going to buy a harness and fuse block kit and wire the whole thing from scratch again..

Some more updates, started working on rear crossmember / trans mounting system.. Did not get a whole lot done, but got some.. First I made an adapter for the bottom of the trans to the OEM '04 Cummins trans mount that is higher and tighter than the OEM Cummins setup.. So here is what I came up with...

Then put the t case in place to start building crossmember around it.. Had to start trimming out even more body. The trans hump / dog house is going to be long...

Here is it in place.. You can see my little illustration, the part of the hump for the driveshaft is going to extend back probably less than 6" from the rear seat hump.. :frown: But honestly not that big a deal, I will also do as small and clean as possible hopefully..

And here is the cross member. . I am using some old Proffitt's Cruisers shackle reversal sleeves and some rubber bushings (again I purposely chose rubber for better isolation properties.. The bushings are actually for a '55 Studebaker, had to look up custom at NAPA..

Finished product on one side, about as far as I got...

Goal of this is to double isolate to further eliminate vibration. Less of a big deal than I am making it out to be but I want the truck to be super comfortable... Anyway, will post up pics as closer to finished, maybe this weekend... :)

the tranny hump looks about like mine with the marlin doubler,,,, rubber mounted crossmember will be nice.

Golf clap for the Sasquach!!!!

Dude, you are all artsy farsty with those mounts!

So nice, simple and elegant!

I can see a future with a kit for those of us on the fringes of the 4BT swap.

This is gonna be a piece of Cruiser history Andre!

 kegstand for you man!!

Hey John, thanks and appreciated.. Ran in to Mark and LT the other day here in SLC on their way to the roundup.. Anyway work on the street is you are back east, looks like in WI now? Anyway, thanks for the props, yup coming along.. Nice and artsy :D

One Sweet Ride

Very inspirational Andre. I spent the last couple of days reading this entire thread with the wifie bugging me to get off the computer. Hope we cross paths someday to see your work in person. I will look forward to the rest of your progress.
