OK then...I guess it's my turn, and I'll see about getting in touch with buying the mat

Most quirks are being worked out. I am still waiting for the thermostat, the new water pump and a gas tank. Prior to me taking that apart it ran ok and would go up to 60 mph without any trouble. I didn't figure faster was smart on the maiden voyage.

I did do some clean up to the wiring, new connectors, moving the harness about a little and the like. I am looking for new oil lines for the spin on filter too. I may have to have them made "especial".:p

Now is ESHAN would just send the damn top. It has apparently been a year so far. A camel would have delivered it by now. Or even an ox for that matter.

60 MPH with no hard top or rollbar:eek: Slow down, enjoy life in the slow lane.

I converted my 68 to a spin on oil filter back in the seventies. Don't remember any problem getting the hoses. I think I bought a complete kit from Man-A-Fre. I'm sure someone is still selling them.

Still can't figure out how your getting a soft top for your cruiser. I know of one in okay shape (FJnotCJ), one made to factory specs by Badger (Foxfab) and a picture of another early FJ40 with a factory top in sad shape that I have no idea if it's even around anymore. Ehsan has nothing in Pakistan to pattern the early top after. This is a project that has been kicked around for years now. The only one made that I know of is the one that Mike (Foxfab) has. It cost more than I paid for all but one of the seven early cruisers I bought over the last seven years. Post some pictures of bows and doors. I'm curious if they may have been modified to fit the later top.

Very nice cruiser by the way. I can't remember how close the VIN is to the 62 soft top tub I have but it's real close. Those two are a couple of the very rare at least in this country barn doors soft tops. I don't remember ever seeing a post 1963 barn door soft top that was imported by Toyota to this country.

So what are the long term plans for your cruiser? Leave it as is and drive it or start bringing back closer to stock? I do hope at least it will be stored away in the winter. To nice of a cruiser to let rust away.

Here is a link for those stickers... Isotel made a bunch up, and they looked really slick!!

You can just make it out below the license plate in this picture.

Toyota Sticker ordered. The truck will be stored indoors (no heat) for the winter months. An easy thing to do as I will freeze to death without a top (or heater for that matter). I also want to keep the salt and sand away.

From the picture above I notice that my bumperettes are on backward.

Closer to stock? Well, I don't want a rubber bodied battery or old school tires. The fuel pump is a newer vintage but not so much that I care. My choke cable broke so I will have a new type. I also have the rear seats but they are not upholstered. The rearview mirror is stock (and it sucks) while the driver's side mirror was is no shape to reuse so I will stick with new ones.

I will likely add a roll cage if the whole top thing falls through. That will throw me way off the stock look. And then well, there go the seats for some better modern ones. Don't know though.

So how many of you want sets of running board mats? Should we start a separate thread?

Yes let's

I just got a nice set of shorty running boards from Dave ( my old ones were bent and rusted )

Will def need some mats for them for the restoration :)

Did you keep the old ones, or do you need to get rid of them? Could always use a spare set if not too bad.

I still have them

I can take some photos of them if you would like to see them

:D

Cool...send me an e-mail...thanks

...concerning the sticker, I've seen it on many, but not every old sales brochures I have seen on line. I know they had them in '64...it showed up in an old '64 sales brochure I picked up a while back. :)

Took off the valve cover today...

There was RTV goo everywhere and I have a little head gasket leak so I thought I would take a peek and see if I could torque the head bolts down in the affected area. About a quart of RTV was used to attach the valve cover so it was a pain to get off. Finally I did and there is a bit of rust on the cover studs and some on some other parts. I am thinking of scrubbing off the loose stuff and blowing it out of the way with air. I plan on rebuilding the head this winter.

Still waiting on a water pump........

I e-mailed the mat people back in July and got a price. I think it was 22 or 23 dollars for a square yard. IF I remember this Friday I will order some. Remembering is easier said than done. I'm a long way off in the need for it but if I don't order soon it will go out of production or something and I won't get any at all. Thats how my luck has been going lately.

Hey Rod, these mats need to be cut a special way to be done properly...those pyramids need to line up...and I am hearing that someone local might purchase a bigger piece of mat, and sell them as already cut pairs...stay tuned!

Back on topic.....

Any thoughts on valve cover color? I want to be sporty. I am thinking that shiny textured Rust-O-leum or maybe hemi orange.

Thoughts?

Cool, I will stop looking at old FJ pics to see how they were installed. I figured they needed proper alingment. When I bought my 65 the original mat was still between the two pieces but I didn't even think to snap a pic!
