Deadline is today and no truck....

The deadline, today, has now passed and the FJ remains, in all likelyhood, right where I saw it Tuesday. The carburetor isn't back from being rebuilt being the reason provided to me.

As of Tuesday the remaining work included: the rear license plate lamp assembly; retouching of paint; repainting a section where there was a cascade of drips; installing a rubber strip into the windshield moulding; finding an oil bath element or a wholly different dry element filter assembly; finishing the tie and relay rod install; installing the bib hinge; installing the heater; installing the lap belts; cleaning; tightening everything; and whatever else I may have forgotten...

If in a week "we" are not further along I am going to be particularly disappointed, to put it politely as I was told to my face that it would be ready by today. We shall see.:frown:

If you are only one or two weeks late, then I think you are OK.

Hate to say it, but lately I always add time to what ever people tell me...just in case.

Home at last!!!!!

After much waiting the FJ is at our place. The good: body is in great shape, my new tires are still new. The not so good: The dash lights don't work, I have to hit the brake twice to get it to firm up and work well. Q: Is this poor adjustment or air or something else. The brakes do get nice and firm on the second hit of the pedal. The temp and oil gauge seem to not be working or working correctly. The temp gauge is sitting on H regardless and the oil light only comes on solid when the engine is above an idle, it flutters at idle.

Lastly, with no element in the oil bath, oil is (I beleive) being sucked into the engine and drooling all over the carb. A mess. New element is due monday.

Glad it finally arrived...

You had mechanics assembling it and the did not make sure the mesh was in th oil bath?

Brakes sound like the need to be bled.

Did they wire up the wiring harness? ( the mechanics )

Love to see some photos :D

there is a possibility they added to much oil to the oil bath as well...

Do the fj25 have a return hose from the oil bath into the motor?
If so is it hooked up?

If you need a photo of the metal screen in the oilbath let me know and i will snap a few shots :D

Cannot wait to see photos :D

The FJ25 has no hose for a drain. The oil bath wouldn't work if it let all the oil drain out. There isn't a overflow drain either if that's what your asking. I do believe Bill's is a 1962 FJ40 which has the same PCV and vents as your 1964. The FJ25s were different, there is on PCV or vent off the valve cover. There is a tube that runs down off the oil fill tube to vent the crankcase. Plus there is a small vent on the top of the valve cover that is hard to see unless you know it's there.

To clarify John's description-------he said "there is on PVC or vent-------" he really said there is NO PVC or vent-------, must have been a hot day today in Arizona to effect the computer in a way that it does not understand what you are typing. HTH John P. #3

Your right about no PCV

PCV Positive Crankcase Ventilation
PVC is a plastic :hhmm: It must be hot in Northern Califorinia too:rolleyes:

Got some progress news for you all.

I have flushed out the coolant system again, lots of rustiness.

The new water pump has sprung a leak so it is being replaced by me (the new pump is a simple exchange.

The gasoline tank, resealed by Runu at some point leaks; so a new one is on the way. I will be replacing the fuel lines at the same time too.

The vacuum lines, old and crusty, were replaced by me too last week.

A few things were loose so I have gone ahead and tightened them properly.

A comment about the "mechanics". They aren't that good. Things here and there are loose, old bolts are reused even with shot threads, and one time (on the fan) there were just three of the four bolts there. Lastly, the license plate light had such a short wire going to it I could not open the tail gate.

I also got the driver's side mirror. Too bad they did not paint it. They just handed it to me when I reminded them of it. Oh well, I have ordered new ones from CCOT. I also ordered a new license plate lamp.

Pictures?? Sure, I'll go get them tomorrow.

Bill

Most quirks are being worked out. I am still waiting for the thermostat, the new water pump and a gas tank. Prior to me taking that apart it ran ok and would go up to 60 mph without any trouble. I didn't figure faster was smart on the maiden voyage.

I did do some clean up to the wiring, new connectors, moving the harness about a little and the like. I am looking for new oil lines for the spin on filter too. I may have to have them made "especial".:p

Now is ESHAN would just send the damn top. It has apparently been a year so far. A camel would have delivered it by now. Or even an ox for that matter.

Wow...very nice Bill !!! :cheers::cheers::cheers:

Edit: You need one of these stickers to go on the sill below the drivers side back door, plus there is a place in NY that has the white mat material you'll need for the short running boards...I'll send you a PM when I find the address...I need to get some as well...as does Destin I think?

Bill sensation!! - Hope my 65 looks that good in a few months time.

You can probably count me in for the sticker and the mat material if it is the same on the longer steps on the 65.
