Hubcaps..

The hubcaps are just your plain jane FJ40 ones. The chrome with the black paint. I am not feeling the need to go for 100% correct. Besides I don't have the dicipline to take off the hub caps every time I feel like going off on a trail. For now the work is slowly progressing and somewhere out there Eshan? is apparently making a new top for it. When it arrives? Only Allah knows and he ain't talkin'. Hopefully in during July.

Meanwhile, I need to order those Yokohama Y720s. Holding off on a winch for now.

Rear end update!! I have the center rear differential with the consequently angled drive shaft. An odd thing to look at.

After further research the Y-720s leave a bit to be desired for road manners. So I am planning to go another way.
Would you believe 31x10.50-15 Nokian MTs. They look good and the price is right.

Things continue to come together. We may have ignition by this weekend. The hood ornament, formerly chrome, had flaked down to the copper so rather than sending it off to be rechormed it was painted gloss black. It looks cool IMHO. The windshield is attached, with stainless fasteners no less. However, no pics. I will have to sign up on the silver star......

QUESTION: LT235/75-15 or 7.00x15 or 31x10.50-15s? Yea, I'll search too.

I am running 7.00x15

love em :)

Update

The soft top frame is on apparently and what else I do not know. The mechanicals are slated for next week. By the end of next week we may have a runner. I have no patience. I should, but I do not seem to be blessed by it. The completion date is by the end of July, maybe I'll get lucky and get it sooner.

Pics as I get them. I don't foresee getting any prior to the 4th.:frown:

I've stopped by to see the Lancruiser. The truck was up and running but is now waiting for a new water pump. Apparently it runs quite well. New clutch and brake master cylinders are installed as are the headlights, wiper motors, soft top frame, and 99% of the little body bits. I also dropped off its new tires for mounting to the stock rims. I am going for 30x9.50-15s. Close to and perhaps a tad larger than stock tires. 32s were fitted to in in the shop and seemed to fit but they looked too non-stock. Tires are the Nokian V%*^&* M/Ts. I don't know how to spell the model name and don't care to.:p They are quite aggressive and at $144 ea. seem like a good value. I have and have had Nokian tires and really like them.

Earlier I thought I had seen the soft top. Apparently not as they are still waiting for it to arrive from Pakistan. The soft top doors were cleaned up, painted and are awaiting canvas. I will continue to post as information becomes available.

I just asked Boston today if they were making the soft top for the early ones. Got a answer back that this is still in the works. They have nothing in Pakistan to model one after. Hope your getting one that will fit your early soft top.

Tires installed to rims, balancing so-so; Why do I have a hand throttle??

Tire on rims, rims repainted in an adequate way by me, bolt on tire valves look cool.

Unfortunately rims are a bit banged up. The center flanges are not 100% square to the world and thus balancing used a lot of lead. Most of it is on the inside of the rim for the best 2 tires and more prevalent on the worst. God (He is a big 4-wheeler and tire balancer between other duties:)) help me if I had used tires larger than 30". The rims are oem types by the way. Has anyone tried the tiny beads for wheel balancing? I may have to go that route when I next have my tires balanced. Meanwhile, I am looking for a end of July completion date. When the Eshan top comes I don't know.

Thanks, Bill

Things still to do:
Tie rod ends
Choke cable
Fix footman loop for top
Install a heater
Cleaning
Sorting out inevitable electrical bugs
Mounting wheels to FJ
Get the hand throttle working. By the way, why do I have a hand throttle?

very nice :)

Looking forward to seeing more photos as it comes along.

I have a hand throttle as well, but I honestly am not sure what it is for.
Possibly to elevate you idle on steep hill starts? ( just guessing )

I always found that the hand throttle was handy when winching.

It is also handy to idle up when cold.

Works well with the PTO winch.

Been on elk hunts in sub-zero weather. Keeps the carb engine running while back in the heated trailer waited for the cruiser to warm up. Also put the transfer case in netural and the transmission in gear. Helps warm and thin the thick gear oil making for easier shifting. The thick oil in the transmission/transfer case put a extra load while idling to warm up. This is where the hand throttle comes in handy:cheers:

do any of you have a diagram or photo of how the cable hooks up to the carburetor or throttle linkage?
The PO had disconnected mine, and I just want to be sure i reconnect it properly.

Thanks ( sorry for the hijack Bill )

July 27, more or less, for FJ delivery. No soft top yet, but the the whole frame is there. Pics will follow in abundance. I will likely make a separate thread so all of the pics are together under one easy title.
