Hey guys, thought i would ask here first, anybody have an early big window carb float? I need a good float that doesnt sink!! Or a weber and conversion manifold? This is a ranch rig, would trade the big window to someone who needs it more than this rig, thanks

Carter and Rodchester both made one barrels that were a direct or very close replacement for the stock carb. I have a few Rodchester one barrel carbs I pulled off to go to stock. Weber was a much later mod. Not many adapters floating around to go to the early one barrel manifold. Don't think even the holleys had a adapter. Only one I can remember is the Man-A-Fre adapter to use a two barrel Rodchester.

That Rodchester is a nice alternative and that float is most likely shot forever. Usually those hairline cracks are numerous, not always on the seam and can't be soldered effectively. I would try and solder first though. Might get a few more years out of it. Again though, if Living in Past has a Rodchester that he will sell you I would snag it. I used one on my 1964 and it was a very functional alternative.

I tried soldering over the weekend, it is too far gone( sat for 20 years) what was the application for the rochester? Early chevy trucks with a 235 maybe? The carb is actually in good shape and works fine if the float was ok.

Whitey, give Jim a shout about the float. He replaced the float in the 40/40DD that I got from him and I'm thinking it was identical to the 40SD

The replacement needed some minor tweaking but worked fine
