Been away from home so no real update on big red other than ordering parts. Here's a little update on sushi roll. It's taller than Ron Burgundy on just 31 inch tires now. Debating how large I want to go on tires and if it's worth regearing, adding a lunchbox locker and so on. I'm definitely getting rid of that rear bumper tho.

It's getting a new clutch, rear main and freeze plug. We will also get the flywheel resurfaced

The freeze plug was leaking and the coolant was just rusty water.

With the 5 inch lift, the front drive shaft was too short. Options were 500 bucks for a new drive shaft, or 50 bucks for a spacer. I went with the spacer, just waiting on it to arrive.

Also upgrading the master brake cylinder and adding larger brake calipers.

Nothing new on Big Red, just getting new parts still. But here's an update on Sushi Roll.

Installed 4 runner v6 calipers. AJ has to grind them a little to fit, but you can't tell.

New clutch and rear main. Resurfaced flywheel.

will be installing a new clutch slave cylinder.

Cleaned the bell housing.

A simple solution to an old tensioner and squeaky belt. Just replace them.

Changed out the window switches as well. Everything works as designed. Next step is replacing the front main seal and the seal in the steering gear.

Big Red is going in for a front main seal and steering gear gasket. But here's an update on Sushi Roll.

The Sniper is going in, the EGR delete is almost complete, and the brakes have been upgraded and bled. The clutch slave cylinder is also replaced and bled as well as other little miscellaneous things.

Instead of extending the sway bar connect links, I think I'm just going to delete it. It's bumping into the steering link.

Found this. I thought it would be hilarious to have on big red, but the wife thinks it needs to go on the porsche. Thoughts?

Getting ready to do the makeup camping trip that I promised my wife. We're taking the Tacoma so we don't have to run the risk of any more breakdowns, plus big red was just dropped off to get the front main seal done and a few other little electrical things.

The hood solar panel needed to be replaced, so we got a new one that was covered under warranty. I solicited the help of Aurora to get the old panel off the hood. It was a PITA, but she got it done. It had been bubbling up for the last 6 months but was still charging the battery.

Here you can see the water managed to get under the vinyl. I'll be sealing the new one with clear silicone. I managed to get everything off with a vinyl remover wheel.

Some of those cracks appeared after I stood on it, but the bubbling was already there.

The tea tray on the Porsche is now my defacto drink, tool, and panel holder.

This is the only effort I put in, I held it in place while she made sure everything lined up.

Looks factory and works as it should. Now I don't need to worry about how to charge the solar generators when we're off the grid. More pics to come.

I talked my wife into letting me supercharge the Tacoma since it's so severely underpowered compared to Big Red. She said sure, so now I'm working on getting the approval for portal axles as well.

Putting these here to remind me. If my job doesn't move me in the next several months, then I'll start on these by summer.

Hit a couple of milestones with the taco and because I'm a child, I figured I'd share them.

We're doing some trails from Texas to Colorado and back. We took the tacoma because we didn't want mechanical issues.

We're in New Mexico enjoying the scenery.

On our way to camp it began snowing and driving at night got interesting. I haven't driven in snow in a while and doing it in a 6700lbs rig is not fun. We got to camp and set up but since I broke the diesel heater, we'll be freezing the rest of the time out here. Anyway, The taco is such a disappointment to drive with this kind of weight and uphill. The wife is on board with a super charger to bring it up to par with Big Red.

It's freezing here. Gonna be another cold night but I'm glad to not be driving. Been on the trail for about 6 hours, mostly doing obstacles that only require 2wd for big red. But required going super slow and in 4 low on some of them. We didn't get out to take many pictures because of how cold it was.

Giving an honest assessment, driving the taco was comfortable, relaxing but underwhelming. It stalled a few times in 4low first gear. This would never ever happen in big red. I usually crawl over rocks at idle in that setting. So I'm having to take time and learn this truck's mannerisms. Not sure why these rigs are so popular on YouTube for overlanders. I guess lack of options?

Been back from Colorado for about a week. Spent most of it in the sub freezing weather and snow. Can't really complain, it was a welcomed change from the desert where I spent the last year and a half. I took a million pics and videos but won't post most of them here. I developed a new respect for the tacoma. It hauled everything I normally put in a trailer all over the trails and made it where 4 wranglers turned back in the snow. I figured out how the ATRAC works. Kinda freaks you out the first time, but it's a great tool to have once you know what it's for.

On the big red end. It got a new front main seal and new fans. 14 inch pusher and a16.5 inch puller with shroud.

Changed out the lights and rewired the gauges. Much brighter.

I found this pillar pod in my garage and trimmed it enough to fit for now. If anyone knows of a pillar pod that fits 2 1/16 gauges and looks stock-ish on a62, please post up.

The Sniper EFI is in and it starts Sushi Roll right away. I got to drive it for a bit on the highway. I'm amazed at how quickly this little engine revs up. I got a bunch of thumbs up from Tacoma and Jeep guys alike. It still needs a few minor things to be done, but I'm hoping to pick it up this weekend, then we can start on Penelope Cruiser.

Ironically, even though Sushi Roll only sits on 31-inch tires, it's harder to get into than it is to get into Big Red, which sits on 37s.

Big red got a much needed upgrade to the head unit. Decided it was time to have android auto, Apple car play Gaia and other apps. I also got a rear and front camera installed. So hopefully that alleviates the need for a spotter on not so technical spots.

The sound system is great as well. Super loud and clear. The screen is 10 inches and adjustable. It tilts and slide up and down .

Is that a physical volume knob???? Finally companies are listening

It is, and it's why I decided on this one vs other head units.
