Happy New Year Mudders! I finally got my parts gathered and had a day to start a dizzy upgrade to my 8/77 40 to start the new year. My big cap dizzy has been rebuilt and recurved for my desmogged 2F by Jim C. Today I pulled the old ignition system and side cover, cleaned and painted the new to me dented cover and started to size up the reassembly.

I dropped the new dizzy in for a test fit and found that the wires to the dizzy from the coil/ignitor are not long enough to get to the dizzy from the coil mounted on the passenger side fender. Is this a common problem? It looks like I need to splice in longer wires but wanted to ask what others have done before I do that.

Second question concerns wiring the coil / ignitor. My understanding from reading other threads is that the larger connector on the ignitor is the input for the 12v keyed source of power to the ignition. Does this wire get connected to the large black/yellow wire in my harness? Should I remove the existing large green connector on the wire coming from the coil/ignitor to make the connection since I don't have a male connector end to attach to the harness black/yellow wire, or is there a source for a connector end to attach to the truck's black yellow harness wire. Last question is whether I should reconnect the white/black ground to the mounting bolt for the coil/ignitor even though it's my understanding that the coil/ignitor self grounds through its mount to the fender. Thanks in advance.

Yep, just splice in some wire to lengthen the wires from the ignitor to the dizzy.

Dizzy has been in for a couple of months and I'm pleased so far, but I have a quick question regarding the ventilation of the dizzy.

I have installed one hose to the dizzy cap which is connected to a small air filter that I have mounted high on the firewall. The other vent opening from the cap I have connected to a vac line that runs to the top of my air cleaner assembly above the carb. Is this adequate ventilation or should I have it venting elsewhere (like the gas filter). I didnt want to "create" a vacuum leak. BTW I'm fully desmogged running a '76 Aisin carb so there are no longer VSV's or the like under the hood. Any insight is appreciated.
