I think he is a Hollywood Boy-

Sure, but once you get there what do you do for the rest of the time?
You can go for a hike, cook under the fresh air, lessen to the sounds, lookout for wildlife, and enjoy the stars, have you ever seen the Milky-way live? I think you need to get out more often! I have relatives in Hollywood doing their acts and they are in a different world, they even want to make a documentary on Over landing!

It would be some long awkward silence with whomever I'll be there. I mean, you can talk to a friend for a while then, silence again.
To me, this sort of trip would have to be a short one. Day trip. Or else I would drain the car battery listening to music and getting pissed off at the lack of cell phone signal. I need a lot of noise in my life.
It's probably the reason I can't go fishing. I don't like it either, just sitting there holding a stick for hours. I remember when my dad took me fishing once, he got mad at me for talking and not being able to sit quietly.
If I can take a dirt bike with me or a jet ski by the lake, that would be different, but I would still have to get home that night.

Interesting THOUGHTS! but to each its own!

I can respect that!

.......Day trip. ......

Last thing Big Bend is is a day trip.
My biggest fear regarding such an outing is that I got nothing to do the whole day. What do I do there? No internet, no cell phone, I'd go insane.

What to to? Hike the canyons, swim the river, scramble over rocks, indulge in geology, wrangle a rattlesnake, chase lizards, look at birds, shoot some photos, get stabbed by a lechuguilla, punctured by an Opuntia, clawed by mesquite, get sunburnt, freeze at night, be bitten by a harvester ant (an unforgettable experience).

Soak up the experience that is Big Bend.

We found we didn't have ENOUGH time!!! We did 5 days and 4 nights and only saw 1/2 of what we planned. There was miles and miles of trails on the north end we missed out on. Maybe next time.

Cell phones and emails and noise and text messages and Facebook and phone calls and notifications and tweets and Instagram and traffic and just humans in general are the reasons I want to GET AWAY from all that. What's the point of being out in the middle of nowhere only to try and reconnect with all the chaos you were trying to leave behind in the first place?

I never felt the need to reconnect with nature and stuff like that. I was born and raised in a densely packed city. I've lived in small towns here and there and never really felt comfortable. I like chaos.
I've been out wheeling and dirt biking, but just for a few hours at a time. never made it in a more than a 24hr event.
My grandparents took me camping using a tent and all. I wouldn't do it now.
I bought a tent for my kids to play in the back yard. One night I decided to sleep in it with my son just so "we can connect with nature". 45 minutes later both of us were back inside the house. I'll never do that again. Well, to be fair I didn't have the proper gear, no air mattress, no sleeping bags either. My wife would not even joke about going camping anywhere. If she's got no proper bed and amenities (shower, toilet, running hot water, etc) she simply would not even think about it.

So I enjoy looking at the pictures you guys post here, but I cannot do what you do. I really like those places in the pictures, but not much more beyond that.

I have many friends like this. There is always the lodge in Big Bend National Park. It has a restaurant, bar, views and wifi (sometimes). Last time we were there the the wifi was turned off due to it being "compromised". Only downfall at the lodge is there is no TV's in the room. This is a problem for me. I'm all for nature but when I am stuck inside I want my TV. There is a outdoor patio by the restaurant that has a TV. I actually hiked up from the campground once to watch Monday Night Football.

You will miss out on a ton of stuff this great country has to offer. Pick a big National Park & it will have a lodge(s). All the amenities of home w/the beauty of the great outdoors a few steps away. Start there & I bet y'all would slowly change your mind. @ least do it for the kids. Who knows, they may absolutely love it but you'll never know until you try!!!! (back yard doesn't count:flipoff2:)
