Hey guys... so I'm working out the details of my bachelor party with some buddies and we are thinking of going up to my friend's cabin in Big Bear for the weekend. Do some chilling and wheeling.

Couple questions about the trails up there...

- When I was up there a year ago or so I went on a trail people called "White Mountain". I have not been able to find this but I believe it was a couple miles north of the Holcomb Valley campground. Does anyone know the official name of this trail and where I can find a map for it? I liked it a lot and would love to run it again. Not super difficult, but good for at least 4 hours or so of fun.

- Any other trail suggestions to do while up there? I don't have sliders or a winch, so nothing extreme - I will likely be going with my friend in a F150 on 37's (no lockers, but I can tug him if necessary). Just don't want to do anything super crazy without a winch and only two trucks.

We are thinking of going up the weekend of the 12th/13th of July, so I might gather a couple guys to come along for the run that day.

Thanks!
-Phil

I would stay away from Dishpan with a stock rig W/O sliders, I would recomend Skyline Dr above the ski resorts, Butler Peak west of Fawnskin if its open, Gold Mountain but stay out of the rock field route.

Anybody know if John Bull's gotten harder or is it easier now? I've heard both from unreliable J**p owners. :)

OK, OK, I will put my rear seats in and haul all of the strippers up to the trail!!!! Just let me know where to pick them up at. It will be a tough job but I know I am the man for the job....

Hope my GF doesn't get on here and see this!!! YIKES

Gold Mountain is not as easy as it used to be. I would probably avoid this without sliders. Definitely take the bypass for the rock garden if you are going to attempt it. You could actually compromise the functionality of your doors if you exited the rock garden wrong with you current setup.

John Bull is the near thes same difficulty as it used to be. There are still some nasty sections, but the real issue is that the rocks don't stop for the entire trail.

OK, so I finally got my NFS maps for San Bernardino and Los Angeles forests. On the San Bernardino map, I am seeing 3N17 up in Big Bear, north of Fawnskin passing over White Mountain. I want to do this run on the weekend of my trip up there (last weekend in July). This was a great long run that I did last year - it was a blast! Anything else in the area that I could do that would be OK for me with no sliders, 33" MT's?

If you have the trail #s, let me know, as the map doesn't have names for the trails. I think Gold Mountain might be too dangerous right now without sliders, Dishpan and JB are too rough as well. Can't seem to find the Skyline drive or Onyx Summit on the map... anyone know any #s?

ALSO, we are likely going to be doing the trail run(s) on Sat, Jul 26) - if anyone is interested in coming up for some trail riding and male comraderie, let me know and I'll give you guys the update! I've run White Mountain before, so I know that trail.

Thanks,
Phil

Skyline drive is 2N10 which is off Mill Creek Rd, or off the road to Bear Mtn ski area depending on which end you start from. I live up here, and would go with you, but I am leaving to go wheeling in CO on Saturday. Have fun!

I just did Dishpan Springs with my brother in his TJ w/ mild lift and 32" tires, no lockers, but we disconnected the sways. It was pretty easy, with three short rock gardens, the first a 5/10, the second one a 7/10, and the third a 6/10. We ran the trail in less than an hour, with no drama.

Does anyone know what the following trails are? they look like a good visit... any thoughts on them?

3N08
3N93
3N94
2N06X

FYI: 3N08, 3N93, 3N94, 2N06X are closed from the fires from last year as well as most of holcomb valley
San Bernardino National Forest - Welcome!

I was up there this past weekend and ran Gold Mt, John Bull, Oynx Summit and others, never touched the magic dial :D

Gold Mt is the easiest of the 3 and you could do that in any cruiser without running boards, bypass the rock garden if you don't have sliders. Oynx was a little bit more chewed this time at the narrows but still only moderate. John Bull about the same as always but with less cheater rocks stacked but still a K5 blazer laid it down by using the pedal instead of gears so be cafefull and use your brain and not the skinny pedal.

Fire danger post was extreme so no fires at all only portable propane stoves if you want to cook.
