4" suspension. And at least with all the other cruiser noises, the MTs do not sing much.

Hi All:

I have to disagree with you "Gettocruiser." Although I don't live in a town that has snow on the ground for weeks at a time, I did spend a week in western Montana in the mid-1990s driving a 4x4 equipped with sipped BFG MTs.

It snowed every day we were in Missoula. Five feet total over the week. The sipped BFG MTs worked great in the fresh snow, but admittedly not as good on packed snow and ice (IME only studded tires work good on ice and packed snow.)

Regards,

Alan

i don't know about a/t's, but m/t's are a nightmare with even a bit of snow on the road.

My 32x11.5 MTs are doing great. Just watch out for excessive water over the road and for snow, they can get a bit squirrelly in my experience.

put a set of 33" m/t's on a 40 series cruiser and get it up to 80-90k on snow covered roads... i dare you, make that a double dare. sipe the s*** out of them if you want and 4wd won't help much either.
i spent all winter driving on s*** covered roads, i love the m/t's but not in the snow.
the same truck with 31" a/t's was ok.

FWIW.......was running BFG 10.5/31/15s made in 89?on stock wheels on our 78 FJ55 ; they started to "detread" and went to 9.5/33/15s, same wheels............mostly on asfalt.........ocasionally very light gravel roads and no lift.....improved gas milage by cutting RPMs down for same speed..very happy with the BFG AT 9.5/33/15s.........had MTs on our 60 several years ago but:princess:was constantly griping about the noise! HTH

I've never had the MT's but I love my AT's. I have them on my pickup and they are very quiet on the road. I have 20k miles on them and the look like new. They are very respectable in all off road conditions except in deep mud they are terrible. Best tire you can get for packed snow except maybe some studless Blizzaks. A studdued snow tire might be a little better but not much.

I'm thinking of getting a set of 33X10.50 KM2's for my Cruiser. Does anyone know if they are any better on packed snow than the original MT?

Max

I don't think such a monster exists (if it does, I want to know about it). Mud Terrain tires are for mud and have the wide tread pattern. Wide tread patterns and good performance on snow packed roads don't go together.....just like the All Terrain tread pattern doesn't work well for mud.

I haven't run the BFG MT's, but I run this Les Schwab knock off in a 255/85x16 (33 inches tall), siped and studded and it is hands down the best hardpack/icy road tire I've ever had. We have hardpacked roads pretty much 5 months out of the year and I've gone through a LOT of different winter tires and this one is the best I've found. Unfortunately, I heard they were going to discontinue it if they haven't already.

What a great vehicle to show property in (I saw the Windermere sign).....I love showing in my 40!!

It works great for showing property. I get a lot of people that never stop talking about it. we have to have our studs off by next Wednesday (we can run them from November 1st to April 1st). We get a lot of people, mostly on the west side of our state trying to outlaw studs, but I don't think there's any question they make a difference. I run the same tire on my pickup in the summer that I do in the winter and they are both siped, the only difference being the studs so I have something I can compare to and there is a difference.

Hi All:

Studded tires are "the sh*t" for ice and packed snow - no doubt about it!

Yes, they damage the road surface (when driven on bare pavement.)

I live in Seattle, almost never travel in the mountains during the winter, but would much rather use studded tires and have no salt on the roads, than the reverse! :D

Alan
