Bleach is the way to go.
It takes time and patience.
Doing mine right now. I'am in on the 10th day.

This should be enough when the bleach is not reacting anymore. Tomorrow or wednesday....... time wll tell
I will sandblast them mildly and then it should be ready for painting.

Again, a can of easy off oven cleaner will get the job done in 30 minutes. Spray it on and wipe it off when you see the chrome peeling.

Tried two different types of easy off. No luck.

Bleach totally worked for me. I did have the entire cargo area of my 60 loaded with 1gallon containers of used contaminated bleach. The waist disposal area near me was looking at my cockeyed.

"HE MAKIN' METH!"

Tried a few different takes. 10 mins, then 15 and then maybe an 30 mins. Even used some sandpaper to give it a once over

I used this company to strip the chrome off my grills and other parts - Home

They are in Santa Fe Spings and when they did mine a couple of years ago, they only charged $35 for 2 grills and 4 headlight surrounds. Like stated earlier, they come back looking like new, ready to paint!

Here's what the parts looked like after stripping!

Have you considered reaching out to a electroplating company to rechrome or is paint the plan?

I painted my grill. Adhesion promoter, primer and good paint, and it has held up perfectly for dam near 6 years.

So after 24 or so hours in a muriatic solution I realized a po had plastidiped the headlight surrounds. I got most of that off today so we will see how the chrome reacts to the bath now. How many days should I expect with the acid vs the bleach?
