I would ask if they can do flat steel (no diamonds just plate) and then have them line-x coated for traction. Or you could use grip tape - Gorilla makes a good black tape with is extremely grippy.

Never had running board/step since ive owned it. Didnt realize that was an option....would love to find a set of the originalsAre you missing the factory running boards / step? Those will be damaged offroading but work well as a step since that is what they are designed for. If you don't have them, I'll be you can find people who have them and will sell them cheap or maybe even give them to you.

Wet painted steel is, in my experience, slippery unless texture is added to the paint of grippy material is added.Isnt diamond plating for grip?
AFAIK, all 80 series came with factory running boards. I'm sure you can find some easily since so many people have removed them. Here's a quick picture I got off Google:Never had running board/step since ive owned it. Didnt realize that was an option....would love to find a set of the originals

Paging @white-knuckleoffroadQuestion: how much lower are the sliders than the door?? They dnt look to be much lower...even in some pics. Would have to be like 5" lower than the door for it to work as a step.
