I would ask if they can do flat steel (no diamonds just plate) and then have them line-x coated for traction. Or you could use grip tape - Gorilla makes a good black tape with is extremely grippy.

Are you missing the factory running boards / step? Those will be damaged offroading but work well as a step since that is what they are designed for. If you don't have them, I'll be you can find people who have them and will sell them cheap or maybe even give them to you.

Here are mine from @TRAIL TAILOR

they are flat like a true step and not angled up.
Sorry for the pic, still in box. He can make you anything you like. He make quality stuff.

Isnt diamond plating for grip?

Wet painted steel is, in my experience, slippery unless texture is added to the paint of grippy material is added.

AFAIK, all 80 series came with factory running boards. I'm sure you can find some easily since so many people have removed them. Here's a quick picture I got off Google:

Question: how much lower are the sliders than the door?? They dnt look to be much lower...even in some pics. Would have to be like 5" lower than the door for it to work as a step.

Sliders can be used as a step to assist entry...but...by design they are tucked in low, so they will protect the rockers (their main function) but not obstruct ground clearance.

W/O a better picture but still looking at your avatar, I think a better option for you would be to carry a folding step stool. I’ve got friends that have had knee surgery and it works perfect for them. They have attached a cord to the step and simply pull it in the truck once they sit down.
