Best option for Carb Fan Sensor Replacement

Out of all my friends I have had the only working carb fan on my 60… until last week. The post on the carb fan sensor broke off. The fan still works as I grounded it to another spot.

What’s the best option? Any after makert sensors worth trying? Rummaging around for an other 60 sensor? Wiring it inside the cab with a switch?

Hey friend, mine still works

That sensor is long discontinued, your options are to try and pull one off a parts rig, solder or repair your sensor if able, rig up an aftermarket or like you suggested rig a timer switch in the cab. Cheers dude

There was a thread many years ago (that I can't find) where somebody used one of these SPAL thermosensors, and it worked.

SPAL has 175/185/195 degree versions. I've never used the one I bought as my stock sensor still works. I think the one I bought was a 195.

The thread is a 3/8" npt so you'll have to make a bracket to hold it. These are used to control SPAL radiator fans

Classic Cruisers could probably get you one pretty quick to Steamboat. Or just ground the wire that went to the temp sensor and let the carb fan run for 20 minutes on every shut down - it won't hurt anything.

I ordered the sensor that @Spike Strip mentioned. It will be a bit as I have a few other projects in the works. I was worried that the carb fan would just keep running for some reason.

@CruiserTrash So if I ground it to another bolt it should only run for 20 minutes? I’ll try again but for some reason I thought mine was not doing that. Thanks for all the replies

I think mine runs for a little longer but yes. Just recently did it to mine and turns on/off fine

The fan will run about 15 minutes, if you ground the wire that goes to the thermosensor. You can just ground it to any bolt on the fender that has a solid ground. Test it first. Drawback is every time you cycle the key, the fan will go on (for 15 mins) even if engine is cold. An inline on/off switch will stop that, you just have to remember to leave the switch on.
